It must be an election year.

His phony commercial was just on TV here in Detroit.

"I been an Oil Man all my life, but we're in a bind now that we can't drill outta.." (paraphrase).

I laughed my ass off.

They are going to be the Greenest bunch of Republican bastards this year.

This bunch will look you in the eye and tell you water ain't wet.

Too funny.

8. I think so too, since what Pickens has in mind aligns closely with Obama.
While McRelic's gas tax holiday and his call to drill, drill, drill doesn't impress...

The guy is still looking to make a buck off the energy crisis, even at 80. He has a whole state (North Dakota) covered with his windmills.

11. Bill Clinton gave wind his blessing in a recent speech to the US Conf. of Mayors.
It's already been used successfully in Europe. This is the future.

Natural gas, ok, a different subject. Wind, no. It is what we have and what we need to use.

Problems w/ T. Boone .... he funded the ACVR .... American Center for voter Rights

in 2004. T. Boone is a piece of shit

I mean, this guy is a total snake oil salesman. And he gave $2 million to smear a real patriot of this country, who had a 96% LCV rating. I mean ... what the hell? To prop up an oil man president and oil man vice president?

21. Yes, but only once.
The reason most corporatists can't stand solar or wind power is because they can't own the source. But it sounds like Pickens is willing to buy himself a big piece of the distribution (windmills, in this case)

33. In the interview on CNBC he flatly stated he was going to make
money if his PR worked. He's not shy about making cash. But if we are going to get out of this downward spiral of energy dependence we have to make it profitable, That's, no pun intended, the bottom line...

Edited on Tue Jul-08-08 08:44 PM by mtf80123
He is right that this year will be the largest transfer of wealth in world history from one country to another.

He is an AMERICAN investing in AMERICA. Even though he will be bringing in untold riches for himself... at least what is spent by him and the American consumer stays in America, builds jobs and infrastructure.

Maybe we should hear what he has to say and evaluate...?

Edit...

However, he did say that he will always "vote Republican anyway". Worth a listen though.

22. No, NOT worth a listen. T Boone Pickens funded the SBVT.
He welched on a $1 million offer to anyone who could prove the SBVT lied. He is doing this out of self interest. He is NOT trustworthy. He has NO REMORSE for funding a smear against John Kerry thereby allowing two oil men back into the WH.

A fellow Repuke spending his own money and saying we can't drill our way out of this mess is the exact opposite of what McCain is saying with his off shore drilling policy.

I consider this a win for our side.

25. SA Express News: Protect water from misguided plans
T. Boone Pickens looks out for T. Boone Pickens

http://www.mysanantonio.com/opinion/stories/MYSA.070708.OPED_1B_CommentSenators0707.30776ab.html

-- Many angry landowners have contacted us about a plan that, contrary to good public policy, will negatively impact property rights of rural Texans from Roberts to Jack County.

The new Roberts County Fresh Water Supply District No. 1, acting as an alter ego of businessman T. Boone Pickens and Mesa Power Pampa LLC, has launched a private venture that may force landowners across 11 counties to submit to the power of eminent domain so they can pump water from the shrinking Ogallala Aquifer and sell wind-generated electricity.

This new governmental entity is composed of only five people, all employees or associates of Pickens. Mesa is Pickens' private company — he controls the various corporate shells identified with this project in filings with the Public Utility Commission. --

-- The Panhandle and West Texas have a history of helping our neighbors. Our cotton, grain, beef and oil have clothed, fed and moved Texans for generations, and we're proud of that heritage. While we look forward to developing renewable energy, we cannot give up an important regional source of water — nor are we required to do so. --

He's after a lot more than profits from wind energy. If you shake hands with a Texas (or any) Oil Man, you better count your fingers.

Edited on Tue Jul-08-08 10:13 PM by mtf80123
I have been watching various videos of Mr. Pickens for the last hour or so.

It almost appears as though he is thinking of his own mortality. Is he trying to achieve some sort of redemption for his sins of greed and hatred?

I just do not trust him within an inch of my life, after I read the Water story.

29. Here's my feelings on redemption and Pickens: if he says he's sorry to John Kerry
and that he was wrong. Only THEN would I take him seriously on anything else. THAT would show real regret for what he has done in the past. ESPECIALLY, since Kerry has a lifetime of environmental activism and excellent work in the Senate. That, I guess, is why I am so angry about this and highly suspicious. He smeared Kerry, yet Kerry talked about Energy Independence in 2004. Somebody needs to ask Pickens why he did everything in his power to sink a candidate in the most despicable ways, who actually spoke out for Energy Independence, something now Pickens says he is for.

28. I hope he calls his project Boone's Wind Farm.
And regardless of his politics, this is a good thing for proponents of alternative energy. Say what you will about the man, but people follow his guidance when it comes to investments, and his investment in wind energy will lead to a lot of money being poured into the technology.
