I applaud HIllary Clinton for voting no on FISA, but let's get real
If she was the nominee and Obama was the Defeated One, the tables would have been turned: Hillary: Yes; Obama: No. Both of these senators are calculating politicians, and as politicians, they follow the will of the people.

Yes, that's right. I hate to break it to you. The fact of the matter is--outside of the very narrow worldview of this message board and the Left blog community--that this bill is supported by the American people, and most everybody else does not care. It's that Great American Majority. Obama has an election to win. He does not have the luxury of not having to face the voters this fall.

If the executive is going to have these powers, we may as well see to it that the executive is someone we like and trust. The best thing we can do now is to put Obama in the White House and ask for this bill to be scrapped in 2009.

1. Move to the head of the class, my friend.
This is the simple fact of how things work in DC, don't like it, that's a shame.

2. Currently THE MAJORITY OF THE AMERICAN POPULACE IS INDIE
Independents are 40.5 %

Republicans are 28.5 %

And Dems are 32 %

If Obama takes the advice from the old Beltway crowd consultants, he might find that a whole lot of the 40 % indie vote stays at HOME.

And if that happens, then it will once again be within stealing margin for the Repugs.

3. Let's get real --
If she had been playing politics and is still open to the VP job, she would have aligned with Obama.

She did what was right, and voted AGAINST Bush. Really.

6. Obama had no choice but to vote for this. As a Presidential candidate,
if he were to vote against it he would be shown to not care for our security, etc. One less thing the other side can't bash him with. He gets enough bashing from DU. He did the right thing.

14. Right on. Anyone that does see this is only helping get McCain elected.
Did we not learn anything over the past eight years.

I would give up a lot more than this if it meant getting a Democratic president.

15.  That is just silly. Seriously. No one who supports FISA was going to vote for Obama anyway.
and yes Virginia, there are Republicans who value the constitution too, and this will not help Obama with those voters.

12. I agree with the first part of your statement
"frightened little rabbits begging for a fascist dictator to keep them safe." But I wholeheartedly disagree with you on the second point. If that is how people really feel they might as well give up and ignore the government for 4 more years because there isn't a damn thing anyone can do to change the disgusting turn this country has taken.

Me, I'll keep on keeping on, I have faith that things will get better though I am realistic enough to know that it will take a long time.

I am voting for Barack Obama and I expect things to get better.

17. Bush did not do this all by himself. The dems were complicit .
If Bush went down he was sure to take the Dems who knew what he was doing, and said nothing, with him. Obama had to vote the way he did to save their craven asses.

18. Yes I know and I am not one bit happy about the outcome today.
I'm holding a grudge from 2004 against all the idiots who voted to keep the worst president in history in power. That's the point I agree with the OP on. People are scared little idiots and those who voted for bush are forcing the rest of us to pay the consequences for their actions.

13. The American people are right on this
A majority of Americans oppose this wiretapping immunity crap.

ttp://rawstory.com/news/2007/ACLU_poll_Majority_opposes_telecom_immunity_0122.html

"The survey shows nearly two-thirds of poll respondents say the government should be required to get an individual warrant before listening in on conversations between US citizens and people abroad. Close to six in 10 people oppose an administration proposal to allow intelligence agencies to seek "blanket warrants" that would let them eavesdrop of foreigners for up to a year no additional judicial oversight required if the foreign suspect spoke to an American. And a majority are against a plan to give legal immunity to telecommunications companies that facilitated the Bush administration's warrantless wiretapping.

Across the board, we find opposition to the administration's FISA agenda," pollster Mark Mellman said Tuesday."

It is a myth that independents want this legislation...it is a myth that the American people want this legislation. The only ones who want this legislation are currently in DC or sitting in a board room.

People can say what they want, but I feel that this "Americans love wiretapping" thing needs to be put to rest. It is not 2002 any more.

because you thought he'd do the opposite of whatever it is smart politicians do?

Huh. Interesting.
