What are Ted Kennedy and Medicare, Chopped liver????
Edited on Wed Jul-09-08 07:56 PM by Labors of Hercules
The REAL news today was not FISA, which we already knew was coming...

It wasn't Jesse Jackson's bullshit either...

THE REAL NEWS WAS THIS:

KENNEDY casts key vote as Medicare bill passes

Before Kennedy appeared on Wednesday afternoon, Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the Democratic majority leader, said: "I look across the aisle at my Republican friends. The 60th vote is there."

And then some. Eighteen Republicans voted "yes," as did all 49 of the Senate's Democrats and the chambers two independents, Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut and Bernard Sanders of Vermont.

Afterward, Reid heaped tribute on Kennedy. "Senator Kennedy showed again today why he is so beloved in our Senate family, why he is the model of public service and an American icon," Reid said. "We knew that Senator Kennedy — one of the greatest fighters this body has ever seen — would rise to the challenge and return to work, and what more appropriate time for him to do so than in an effort to protect seniors' and veterans' health care."

"Kennedy made his way into the chamber on his own power -- accompanied by Barack Obama, John Kerry and Kennedy's son, Congressman Patrick Kennedy. Democrats knew he was coming, and they burst into applause. When Republicans saw him, they joined in."

1. Agree, and passage of the bill itself is even bigger than Ted being there.
Thanks for the post. I am trying to get peoples' attention to how huge this was, as well.

6. Heard this on the way home and thought...
..."Bless You Teddy! One of the FEW REAL Democrats left up there!"

And what happened WAS news! DAMN GOOD news! My Mom is on Medicare and cutting payments to doctors 10% would have SEVERELY limited the doctors she could go to - which is limited already - because so many of them would have just stopped accepting Medicare patients because they can't AFFORD to!

I heard the whine about "how are they gonna pay for it?" Well how HAVE they been paying for it?! GET THE HELL OUT OF IRAQ is one way.

Idiots! You DO NOT cut programs that help the poorest and eldest people in this country JUST SO little pissant Lord Fauntleroy and his ILLEGAL wars can go on endlessly. END THE WARS - and FUND THE DAMN PROGRAMS for the people who NEED them most! IDIOTS.

And Teddy Kennedy showed up in the MIDDLE of cancer treatment just to vote on this. BLESS HIS heart.

Best news I heard all day.

10. And McCain was NOWHERE to be found...
So a man that recently had brain surgery could make the vote, but not John McCain? Fucking pathetic. Considering McSame serves a large senior-populated state, the backlash from this should be HUGE. (but it won't be)

17. Thank you, Senator Kennedy - for caring as much as you do, and putting it on the line!
It was great to see you back.
If only there were more with the kind of courage and dedication that you have demonstrated time and time again...

Great thanks!!!!
