Even The Nation strongly disagrees with today's FISA bill passage
The Nation magazine, warned Obama on a July 1st editorial, on his position on this bill:

It is troubling that Obama fails to recognize that, as Dodd told the Senate, passage of the measure will sanction lawlessness by an Administration that has engaged in "a pattern of abuse against civil liberties and the rule of law against the Constitution." It is also troubling that Obama has abandoned the position he took before the Wisconsin pri- mary, when he said, "I am proud to stand with Senator Dodd, Senator Feingold and a grassroots movement of Americans who are refusing to let President Bush put protections for special interests ahead of our security and our liberty." Now Obama is not only putting politics ahead of principle--he's also calculating the politics wrong.

Today, The Nation's Washington correspondent John Nichols observes:

Russ Feingold was speaking the truth about a moment in which the ACLU said the Senate was on the verge of passing "an unconstitutional domestic spying bill that violates the Fourth Amendment and eliminates any meaningful role for judicial oversight of government surveillance."

But Barack Obama did not want to hear it.

9. They liked his organizing, power to the people, but only their kind of people, their slogans.
Hope springs eternal every election we will rise up with a progressive majority. They never understand we have to start somewhere and grow them, where they already are in their thinking. Can't superimpose our ideas, banging on their heads.

We still have to show that government can work, and spending money on our priorities for people, unselfishly for other people, is worth sweat, tears and taxes. All boats lifting, and purchasing power to the people.

15. Being that The Nation agreed with everything Obama said in the primaries
It is in fact surprising that they are disagreeing strongly with him on anything. Let's not pretend The Nation has been independent-minded this year.

... to many on DU since before Obama even announced he was running. For you to expect everyone to just sit down and shut up is unrealistic.

For many of us this was a major fuck up from him. Not necessarily deal-breaking, but incredibly disappointing and even more so, disillusioning. This is about far more then just Obama. This was a big let down by alot of Democrats.

Our Party let us down.

Party leadership let us down.

This just sucks.
