Feingold on FISA: Elect Obama to reverse 'terrible legislation'
Feingold on FISA: Elect Obama to reverse 'terrible legislation'
Nick Langewis and David Edwards
Published: Wednesday July 9, 2008

..........

Feingold conceded that public disappointment following gains for Democrats in the 2006 elections was understandable, but said that a Democratic president, "in particular, Barack Obama, should allow us to greatly change this mistake."

"Barack Obama believes in the Constitution," he continued. "He's a constitutional scholar. I believe that he will have a better chance to look at these powers that have been given to the executive branch, (even though) he'll be running the executive branch.

I think he will understand and help take the lead in fixing some of the worst provisions."

"I do think that people have a right to be disappointed," he went on, "but they also have a right to hope for change--on this issue, in particular--starting in January."

6. Ok I'm done. I watched Russ say all this yesterday...
It was heartening to see that he knows the battle isnt over and can still be won.

2. Not a very strong argument.
If Obama were likely to want to undo this "catastrophic" legislation, he wouldn't have voted for cloture, and voted to pass it, to begin with.

I'll pin my hopes, at this point, on the ACLU.

4. In January we'll have a president who will not veto the better
legislation. It's pretty simple. And folks who simply prefer to whine will keep on whining.

But, after invoking Feingold's name so many times in the last few weeks, you'd think they might listen to him again.

7. I thought what Feingold said made a lot of sense.
In otherwards, just because you lose a battle doesn't mean you've lost the war.

5. I'll give you the first Rec. This aspect of what Feingold said and believes about the FISA vote
has been ignored. Yes, he is disappointed, but he is also hopeful. If Feingold can feel this way, then others should be able to feel that way also. That is, unless there are those here who worked harder to stop the FISA bill than Senator Feingold. He is not willing to judge Obama and all that he will be based upon one vote. Many others not only appear to be willing, but almost eager to do that. I think a Republican would view this as a great opportunity to fan the flames (kind of like former Clinton supporters who are females who claim they will vote for McCain).
