Poll question: Bring back new thread post limit? |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-10-08 10:29 AM by Jake3463
Should the Mods bring back the Primary standards to prevent duplication of the same thing over and over again?

Blizzarding the board to inundate us all with one's opinions kills many interesting threads that might blossom if given some time. It's the cyber equivalent of shouting down opponents.
Three is PLENTY. This is something I've suggested as basic manners for years on this board.
A little bit of decency and coexistence goes a long way, but many seem to think this is just another arena to dominate as one sees fit. Some of us like the interplay of ideas.
It's also significant to note that some of the worst abusers of the multi-post tactic are the same ones who abuse hitting "alert" on anyone whose opinion they dislike and who revel in their dependence on "ignore". Shouting down opponents belongs on the playground, not in a forum where many actively respect others.

3. Raise it to starting FIVE THREADS per day |
|
There should be no limit on the number of posts per day, just threads you can start. Then people would be encouraged to take three seconds to scan the list of topics and join an existing one instead of starting the TENTH THREAD OF THE DAY on the same topic.

Getting rid of those who are purposefully disrupting sounds like a better idea. Or at least send them to their room without supper for awhile...

5. No--if you've got a lot to say, let's hear it. And if I deem it all to be crap, you're on ignore. |

7. The only place where that might make sense is the video section |
|
I have a problem with people posting 4+ videos back to back to back only because (unlike other forums where is does not apply) it pushes videos off the homepage which dramatically reduces potential for views and recs which is unfair to those to post a moderate amount.
4+ videos in fast paced day is fine (a day where different people are posting different things) but back to back to back to back videos is a little obnoxious IMO.

12. I've noticed that, as well. |

Sometimes it seems as if some posters in the Video section, as well as the Editorial section have OCD or something.

10. Any hot topic takes over the board temporarily |
|
Personally, I don't mind the duplication - sometimes someone actually brings a new observation or slant that deserves it's own discussion and not to be lost up in a mega thread.
I get tired of the self-appointed thread police who jump on every thread to complain about its existance. If someone is tired about FISA discussions, they can ignore all of them at will.

16. I'd support bringing back a modified version of the rule. |
|
Though I'm not not sure if the software is "smart enough" to detect this.....
One thread per day on any one subject (like er, I don't know.... FISA maybe??)
NO threads in GDP where the focus is anyone BUT a Presidential Nominee. Which would be Barack Obama, John McCain, Bob Barr, Ralph Nader, and whomever else the other minor parties are running. And obviously, you can only advocate for Obama.
