So long. I doubt I'll be missed.
Well, it was a short run for me.

As I mentioned when I signed up about a month ago, I am supporting Obama this November, but I'm not a Democrat. I'm a registered Independant, with a liberal lean and I'm very excited about Obama (hopefully) becoming the 44th President of the United States.

I really just wanted a good place to talk about support of Obama, with intelligent people that also wanted to support Obama's bid for the presidency. I hadn't been to Democratic underground before, but after I read the stickied post "Welcome to the General Election. So, what does this mean for Democratic Underground?", I believed this would be a good place to come.

But, to put it bluntly, this place pretty much sucks giant horse cocks in regards of supporting Barack Obama and my limited time here has been spent more defending him against attacks from Liberals than it has been engaged in any kind of quality discourse.

So, as quickly as I came, I'm gone.

For those here that also want to see Obama the 44th President, I hope we'll be successfull and if so I'll come back in November for a celebritory post.

Enjoy your summer, everyone, and good-bye.

10. Seconded.
We need all our allies. Hope you'll change your mind and stick around. There are still plenty of us who remain solid supporters. He just disappointed me with the FISA vote, but am I gonna bail? Not on your life.

Anyway, if you leave, we hope to see you back again in November - with champagne - or whatever substance with which you celebrate!

52. in the last 24 hours I have been called "coward" "nazi" and "quisling"
this is not dissent or discussion

it is a hysterically charged attack that is often without fact.

Senator Obama made a brief explanation on why he voted for the bill today in his remarks in Virginia (and also explained how the Supreme Court had accepted his brief on whistle blowing in case where he represented a whistle blower).

I look forward to your thread explaining how Senator Obama's assertion that this administration and future administrations will no longer be able to define future questions of national security survelliance questions unilaterally but now will be forced to channel all such questions into FISA courts for prior approval is factually incorrect and that Senator Obama does not know what he is talking about when he speaks about the constitution and FISA courts.

63. It's beyond dissent
It's outrage for the sake of being outraged. And the fact is unless your own personal lawsuit against the telecoms was thrown out because of this law, you are being offended by proxy. That's the dumbest waste of time in the modern world and usually something only the Republicans get caught up in. After everything that has happened in the last 7.5 years, FISA passing the Senate this week is practically a non-issue in comparison. Between now and the time the next president takes office I expect it will have absolutely no impact on my life.

69. Dissent is having a difference of opinion
There are a whole lot of people here that claim to be "dissenters" when all they're really doing is stirring up shit ("shit" defined here as unfounded claims with no facts), spewing RW talking points and bashing our nominee.

Lots of posters seem to be intent on posting threads that are anti-Obama, but they can't seem to dig deep enough to find some positive information or rally people to the cause.

The sheer number of "concern" posts here over the last couple of weeks has really turned me off. Not enough to push me out the door, but you can't really blame someone for feeling the need to take a break.

18. There's a big difference in scale of vulgarity right there. In case you didn't notice.
Besides which, DU is a "big tent" kind of place, remember? If someone likes sucking giant horse cocks, and the horse is a consenting adult horse as a suckee, and the sucker is a consenting adult (horse or non-horse) as well, I as an individual, and I suspect DU as a group (being, as I said, an inclusive "big tent;" large enough for even the odd equine or two), don't discriminate against either the sucker or the suckee, as long as they're stalwart in support of the Democratic party, though such support may be difficult for the horse to elucidate in any medium, and particularly through posting on an online forum.

It's the hooves, you know. Nobody seems to manufacture a keyboard with keys large enough, nor sturdy enough, to accommodate them.

Though I'm not sure how the horses give consent. Maybe they stomp their hooves once for yes, twice for no?

Unless they only hire the talking "Mr Ed" type of horses. Not sure which particular breed that was, but I'd guess they're fairly rare.

I got $10 that says if you took the time to "raise this as an issue" on the Internet, there'd be at least one damfool who would take it seriously and send out an indignant Press Release or Call To Action, though whether that release or call would be pro- or anti-hooved brethren, I couldn't predict.

55. God, I love being given the opportunity to type this kind of stuff again:
Edited on Thu Jul-10-08 02:46 PM by Redstone
Hey, if you equate accusing an entire community of "sucking giant horse cocks" with an expression of not caring if one individual (the same one who has accused a community of which I am a member, and therefore by inference me as an individual, as someone who "sucks giant horse cocks") lets a door hit him in the ass on his way out of the same community (which, if his assertion is correct, makes him a "giant horse-cock sucker" as well, just by his association with the community, no matter how brief that association may have been. Did he ever consider that?). (Hey, if you know we liked to suck giant horse cocks, you didn't need to sign up to be a DU member, if sucking giant horse cocks is not an activity that you enjoy.)

Q.E.D.

And thank you again for providing me the opportunity to type so many variants of the phrase "suck giant horse cocks" once again. I don't get many chances to do so, and it's kind of refreshing. Liberating, actually.

How dare anyone criticize the curtailing of constitutional freedoms and liberties.

How dare anyone suggest women should have the full right to choose and decide for themselves.

How dare anyone suggest a separation between church and state.

Anyone daring to do should be cast aside, shunned and flogged in public.

I came to DU, late in '02, to get away from Bush lovers and apologizers. I came, not for partisan purposes, or because of campaigns, but for issues. I've often been frustrated when issues are "thrown under the bus" in favor of campaigns; after all, there is a new campaign season every 2 years. If all we ever do is campaign for the next election, issues NEVER get addressed.

I'm still here for issues.

If you ever want to talk about issues, come on back. Meanwhile, I'm sure there is some group out there that will talk about nothing but how to elect Obama. His website, I'm sure. Possibly some yahoo groups, etc.?

Or, you could just click on threads that deal with your purpose, and leave the rest.

I hope you find what you are looking for.

37. I hear ya
There are many here that would rather lose the Presidency based on a couple of issues, than win by whatever means our candidate deems necessary. This "purity" leads to Republicans in office damn near perpetually. And we liberals are supposed to be the smart ones. I'll continue to work to get our nominee elected, as I trust he'll be far better than the alternative.

41. Try Again After the Furor Has Gone Down
I've been here since early 2001, and this place goes through many phases. I sincerely doubt this is what the board will be like later in the campaign.

This particular issue has struck some kind of nerve. But on many issues, the screamers come out first, followed eventually by the voices of reason.

I don't blame you for your reaction -- it's mighty hard to maintain equilibrium in this kind of chaos. But the good news is that it's not permanent.

That's one more beer I owe you, if we ever meet, for giving me that great laugh.

I think the mods should escort the Puppeteer to the door, as well, since socks are expressly against the rules.

93. I'm sorry you're leaving but I understand...
because I have been spending lots less time here myself lately for the very same reason. I used to be here every day several times a day but sometimes days go by before I check in. I thought it was bad here during the primaries but that was at least understandable. Things are as bad if not worse since they ended, it's very frustrating. Check back in now and then and maybe things will get better, that's what I'm going to do especially around the time of the convention.
