McCain, RNC Had $95 Million On Hand At End of June

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Campaign manager Rick Davis discusses the financial outlook of the campaign on media conference call.

Says Republicans’ cash on hand is more than twice what Obama and the DNC had. “This shows extremely strong fundraising that has considerably increased every month.”

Also says the GOP campaign is spending $10 million less per month to operate than Obama’s, and McCain’s campaign has outspent Obama’s on advertising by almost 3:1 over the last two months.

1. I'm afraid Obama's June #'s were not that good
The fact that he has not released them yet is a little worrisome.

This could be the campaign holding back.

Ya know let the other guy crow about his great haul then trump him.

21. I sadly agree to.

With the primaries ending in the first week of June and all indications that Obama's fund raising has slowed down, I predict around $20 million raised for the month. I have no real evidence for my prediction, but I do not see any good news coming from the Obama camp about June numbers. July will report much better though.

22. I don't know about that
Not the way things have been in the blogosphere lately. Maybe the events with Clinton donors will yield some money, but I am worried about it. I gave $36 today, plus I bought some stuff from the campaign store.

27. Exactly, a matter of competence IMHO
Rahm's success at fundraising over at the DCCC, and Dean's failure at the DNC.

29. Well we're talking money in the bank.
And the DNC is concerned with creating infrastructure while the DCCC is more about direct candidate support.

I expect the DNC to pick in up in the coming months.

16. They accept money from lobbyists and we don't....
Plus, when you give millionaires ridiculously large tax cuts, they have more to spend on the GOP. Knowing this, I'm ok with the DNC not raising as much money as the GOP. At least I know our money is clean.

we also have to remember that the poor and middle class are being squeezed to financial death right now. Many of us simply can't afford to donate much right now, but that's ok because our votes are worth more than whatever the GOP raises anyway.

9. I would agree.
And while the DNC lags behind the RNC in cash on hand, the DCCC is killing its GOP counterpart.

That's not what McCain himself raised. But we all know the DNC is having fundraising issues.

I've never heard of a presidential candidate doing that before.

I think Obama will raise in the 50 million range for June.

We still need the funds to defend in the fall, so I hope the FISA folks will have faced reality by then that their persobal piques don't mean more than getting health care.

24. McCain Adviser: We're Outspending Obama Three-To-One On TV Ads
Over the past several weeks, a whole bunch of you have written in from all over the country to say that it seems like John McCain is outspending Barack Obama on ads in your areas.

Well, here's something that may -- repeat, may -- shed some light on this.

On the McCain conference call about the combined $94 million he and the RNC have in cash on hand, campaign manager Rick Davis claimed that they were outspending the Obama team by a large margin.

"We have spent up until last week probably over $10 million more than Obama has in the last two months on television advertising," Davis said, adding: "From April to this point, we've spent almost three times the amount of TV spending that Obama has."

Is it true? The Obama campaign declined to respond to Davis' claim, saying it doesn't comment on its ad buys.
