http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/

notice first read trying to do major damage control for McCain here. Ah, charmingly inept McCain.

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro

McCain slammed economic adviser Phil Gramm for his “mental recession” and “nation of whiners” comment. He said he didn’t agree with him and even proposed a position in a McCain administration -- ambassador to Belarus, “though I’m not sure the citizens of Minsk would welcome that,” McCain said.

snip

McCain has used the word “psychological” to describe on the country’s problems, leaving some to connect dots. But McCain rebuffed that and Obama’s mocking criticism, calling Gramm a “Dr. Phil” that’s not needed for this economy.

“You’re talking about Dr. Phil,” McCain said, adding about Obama, “He’s Dr. No. He’s Dr. No on energy. McCain then ticked off the energy proposals in which he and Obama disagree on implementing. “My response is I speak for me. … He’s Dr. No.”

1. Even his handlers can't get a grip on McSame. What a creepy, unconnected,
scary person he is.

I mean, this really tells us all we need to know. He's 45 years too late for this job.

20. Well Dr. No is classic James Bond
But let's face it, McLame is no Sean Connery; not then, not now, not ever.

(I prefer Pierce Brosnan myself)

8. LOL way to be with the times there Mcgramps
I doubt half of the voters out there even know who Doctor No is. Could you point out your age any more effectively each time you speak? If this was a race to see who could make you looked the most out of touch with reality the fastest you would have this thing won in a landslide already.

18. I didn't get the reference either until I looked it up.
So...either way, Obama wins. Either he's a suave James Bond character, or the audience does not know who the hell Nr No is and just think that its another one of McCain's awkward jokes that the audience needs a "cue" to "chuckle" at.

He might have had a snappier response if he did.

I actually instruct a lot of seniors on computer use in my day to day job. I have taught 80 and 90 year olds with more mental curiosity in their little finger than this buffoon.Wasnt his favorite movie like some silent film or something? Talk about stuck in a rut

12. It's funny to me....
to compare Obama to a movie villain from a movie that came out when Obama was just one year old...and based on a novel written before Obama was born.

I had to actually google "Dr. No" because I had no idea what the hell McAmbien was talking about.

13. some of the MSNBC first read comments are hilarious.
Edited on Thu Jul-10-08 02:40 PM by ErinBerin84
And this one makes a good point that I forgot about...

-----------------
"Phil Gramm doesn't speak for me, I speak for me."

Yet he previously deferred questions on the economy to Phil Gramm.

Then he refers to a nuclear disaster at the same time he is pushing nuclear power. I don't have a problem with nuclear power but this was just stupid
-----------------

I forgot that McCain is such a loser that he can't even fudge questions on the economy, he has constantly avoided those questions at town hall meetings and given them to Phil Gramm. Hit him on this, Obama. Gramm DOES speak for Mccain. Out of Touch Much McCain and Dr Phil to the rescue!

22. great reply, bad press but a good diversion to "real" news!!!
except for CBS, the other networks were toast including PBS nightly news which gave the longer version of McCain's drama whilst a shortened version of Obama's speech.

Am beginning to think that this election frenzy is just another excuse to NOT report any real news at all, like what's really happening in Afghanistan, Iraq.
It's becoming a distraction now given the total lack of context.
Reads like Paris Hilton, etc. Just sayin'~
