The FISA vote for Obama was the same kind of calculated risk he
takes with his black base. He needed them for the primary to beat out Hillary. Now he is willing to diss the black base in favor of appealing to the white majority for the general election. He knows that it doesn't matter to most black voters now...they want him to be President no matter what so he need not continue to pander to them. It's a calculated political action that has almost no negative consequences for his run. What I can't figure out is what he had to gain with the FISA vote. It only alienated the people who worked hard for him and it will not get him any more voters from the right. People have already made up their minds about whether or not they will vote for Obama in November. Those 15% undecides have already decided that they will NOT vote for him in November...they may not vote for McCain but they will surely not vote for Obama.

1. I'm not sure what he hoped to gain (trying to avoid being called weak on terrorism?), but...
...he has taken a big risk when it comes to getting those all-important young and new voters to the polls in November ~ the politics of same ol' same ol' is not what they were excited about.

4. Young people need an economy that works.
And need to avoid being sent to a war in Iran and $7 gas.

6. Sure, but they are very hard to get to the polls...
...and this kind of move shreds Obama's "change we can believe in" brand, which is what they (and other new voters) signed on for. A lot of risk for what exactly??

12. I'm Sure Most Of That Young Vote You Speak Of Think FISA Is An....
energy drink. They don't have a clue what that is about. Now going to war and $7.00/gal gas - that's a different story.

2. If you can listen to McCain talk about how our economic problems are "psychological"
and think that people are going to sit out this election based on FISA and on Obama's comments about Fatherhood, I don't know what to tell you.

Do you perhaps think we believe in self-flagellation or something?

9. If he's only thinking about votes, maybe it'll pay off. Sadly, he sucked the life out of his base
with this. He may not have lost voters on paper, based on how the polls tell him he's doing, but he just lost thousands of volunteers and donors with this move.
