MSNBC fails again by equating Gramm and Jackson stories.
By lumping the stories together under the single theme of the danger of spokespersons' damaging comments, the MSM gives the impression that both campaigns stumbled . The comparison is not even remotely valid. Jackson's comments were an embarrassment to himself alone while Gramm's comments were revealing of the way Republicans, McCain included, really think about the economy and those folks who are suffering from their predatory economic policies.
My hope for this year was that we would have something of an even playing field where reportage was concerned. All indications are that the fix is in yet again. The incredulity from both Schieffer and Harwood when hearing criticism of St.John's record speaks volumes of how bamboozled the media remain.
We are going to have to win this in spite of what the nets and papers ladle out to the polity. I pray that the Obama campaign can make effective use in its advertising of the many examples of inadvertent truth telling by the GOP like Gramm's "whining" comments.

1. the media is being biased in favor of John McCain?
Hmmm, someone on this board told me that the general election coverage of McCain and Obama has been equal, and that they cover McCain just as badly. Ok, I guess they're right...Jesse Jackson = Phil Gramm, so we're even for the day!

2. They're trying way too hard at this
Asking guests who can't even seem to find a way to link them. Not even the Republican that Schuster was interviewing earlier in tandem with the Dem could link them in gravity.

12. And even if he was, he didn't say anything that could even be CONSTRUED as representing
Obama. Apples and rocks.

4. Gotta love how MSNBC took a shady FOX story and made it their own.
Sooooo typical, this tattletale journalism.

"Was FOX fair in airing an off mic comment by Jesse Jackson?"

"Let's watch the clip."

a stumble on Obama's part?

6. MSNBC is trying to spin the Jackson thing...
as "damage control" that the Obama campaign needs to address.

Are you f-cking kidding me? This only reflects negatively on Jackson and in some ways can be seen as a positive for Obama since it paints him as a straight-talker who wants to empower people.

They are treating it as though what Jackson said about "talking down to black people" is a sort of ugly truth that Obama is trying to conceal.

No, what IS ugly is ignoring black people like they do not exist -- which is the behavior many in the GOP adopt.

10. What a stupid comparison
Jackson made disgusting comments that insulted Obama when he thought the mic was off and he apologized for it. Gramm made disgusting comments that insulted all Americans in public and then he refused to apologize for it. How can anyone compare the two situations?

11. I was going to start a similar thread. Shuster is saying BOTH nominees have problems with their
surrogates. What JJ said was NOT a problem for Obama. It HELPS him. On the other hand, what Gramm said was devastating to McCain, and McCain said Gramm should take a job in Belarus, saying he speaks for himself, when Gramm's his economic adviser!
