I think this particular part is going to pay lots of dividends.Theres other parts I like too. But that part especially makes me smile.

1. Sort of what I expected with this thread
not a lot of real discusion of the bill going on here. My thanks goes out especially to a fellow DUer Merh who's posts helped me to understand this bill instead of just joining the firing squad.

5. Try this link....
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?c110:13:./temp/~c110RkhrI7::

If that link doesn't work go here:

1. http://thomas.loc.gov/

2. Type in FISA where it says SEARCH BILL TEXT

3. Scroll down to the 13 choice entitled: FISA Amendments Act of 2008 (Enrolled as Agreed to or Passed by Both House and Senate)

4. Click on the highlighted:

It will give you the bill that was passed by the Senate.

4.  K& R: Thanks Egnever you're in the same league now as MERH and Berni_McCoy
Edited on Thu Jul-10-08 03:29 PM by vaberella
I'd first like to say that much like you it was MERH that really pushed me to read the bill myself and read ALL the data I can collect, making my own conclusions and seeing the arguments by the opposition.

I think what's going on really is the fact that there are not a lot of people taking the step forward or the initiative to learn. The same people I've seen here who scorn Americans for not being very cerebral and not reading all the information but listening to MSM have subscribed to the same dogma and use other people's statements and talking points to defend their stance. Not one has shown me defense either 1) using EXACT language which either or 2) hasn't been refuted by other clauses within the same bill.

It's unfortunate.

For those who may happen on this thread and want to read up on some of the statements...here are some links:

6. Excelent links thank you
I started believing in Obama and wondering why he would do what he was doing. It made me look closer at this bill. Merh though really helped me to understand it on my own without the filter of the media to do my thinking for me and I have to say that after some self education I really don't have a problem with Obamas vote. Sure I would have liked to see the imunity stripped but I am not sure of the actually effect if immunity was left in.

Thanks again for the kick and the links and the confirmation as well that Merhs posts got more than just myself thinking about this.

10. De Nada.
Obama hated the whole "immunity" thing as well. And he gave us note that he would change that. I started had started a topic wanting us to move past this issue into what he said he would do in 2009 to this bill. He has been extremely candid with us and I appreciate his forthrightness, I think we all need to look to the future because this isn't the end of the world.

As for MERH he definitely was the voice of reason amongst the loud mouthpieces here who never gave a solid argument. While everyone was settling with name calling he was being extremely calm and detailed in his posts. I had to give him the credit to learn about the bill myself (although I had never participated in the lambasting of Obama). After reading it, you start getting your own viewpoints which differ from the many others who like creating multiple threads just to keep the anger and childishness alive.

15. I'm hoping that's the case. A few people have said after reading the bill for
themselves they understand Obama's position better. So we can only hope on people reading it for themselves.

9. You will be interested to see Senator Obama's remarks in Virginia today

he addresses the expanded use of the Inspector General.

The other main point was that in the future Administrations would no longer simply be able to assert national security for any future type of survelliance that isn't already covered. All future ventures will have to go the FISA court first.

What so many people forget is that the FISA was edited several times and when it came up to final vote time it was edited again from the last time some of the MSM have read it. A lot of the loud mouths screaming haven't read the bill.

This is why so many Dems who were angry at Obama took a step back and were promoting him and trust him to make changes in the future; even though they voted no. I think that was Feingold. So all this hoopla is nonsensical.
