Poll question: Who do you want in the White House in 2009? Obama or McCain
This isn't who you are going to vote for in 2008, this is who you want in the White House. Because no matter who you vote for in November 2008, one of these 2 will be in the white House come late January 2009.

All those other candidates are nothing more than lil spoilers hoping to grab a headline that "ooh I might have swayed the election - Look at Me" but none of the have a chance no matter how hard we all work as a team to get the guy elected. Hell DU could turn itself into "Let's elect the 3rd party candidate" underground and in 2009 it will either be Obama or McCain.

So don't talk about who you are going to vote for because this is not the question. The question is a simple one. Our shitty electorial system allows for only 2 candidates to be competitive which means in 2009 it's going to be Obama or McCain - which one do you want in the White House?

1. Kind of sad that we even wonder about this, but I can understand why we do.
This place is getting, well, strange...

4. So very very very true
I'm not trying to question anyone's value - we all have them and it's important. But I would rather spend the next 4 years pissed off at President Obama, who at least might get some of it right than fighting President McCain who I know will get none of it right.

And with 3 of our progressive Supreme Court justices over the age of 70 (including 85 year old John Paul Stevens), I don't want a republican picking the next justice on the Supreme Court.

3. The results of this poll *should* end up being 100% Obama here on DU.
But we'll see how it plays out.

5. Notice there are no other options
I figured even if you can't vote (non-US or under 18) you can still decide on whether you prefer Obama or McCain in the White House in 2009.

7. A no-brainer, LynneSin
As pissed off as I am at Barack Obama -- and I AM pissed off -- he is far, far superior to John McCain. At least we might have a chance at rescuing the Supreme Court.

That's the problem here. We still have sleeper agents from the GOP sowing dissent.

29. You'd think that....
...but everyday I see threads from posters who have nothing better to do than to nitpick Obama to death and talk about how "ooo my principles won't be compromised with a candidate that doesn't agree 110% with my" type mentality.

Sure the poll is a no-brainer but it was meant to be an eye-opener. The stark reality that no matter how single-issue tunnel vision we can be, in the end it will be either Obama or McCain. And even if Obama's flaws, I still would rather spend 4 years here on DU, with other DUers, fighting Obama to get it right and knowing that the could be a chance he will then with a candidate where I know there is absolutely no chance whatsoever to get it done.

39. My guess.....under 10 posts....lol
Or some people just being funny :silly:

Depends on what mood admin (who knows how we vote) is in, I do believe some people were TS'd for voting the wrong way in a rather violent poll once? I doubt posting a vote preference, serious or not, is a federal offense?

36. A very relevant option on this poll would be "Not Obama"
We still have a disgruntled group of supporters of other campaigns who have not come to terms with the outcome of the primaries. These people are actively working against Obama.

where they know they can come out the victor with all of us on DU supporting their view. Talk about a cheap means toward a feeling of superiority.
