| Something is going on in Belt Parkway in NY |

I see a set of four fire trucks with fireman either standing around or sitting on top of their trucks and a 4 police cars (all parked in the median) lined up near the median. What is the purpose of that except to hold up traffic. We are on our way to the JFK airport to head home tonight.

and they're clearing the scene?
Could be numerous explanations...I doubt that the FIREFIGHTERS are just trying to make your life miserable by holding up traffic.
If you asked them where they'd rather be, I'm sure they'd prefer to be at the station instead of out in 100 degree heat in thick turnouts.

They were split up about a mile apart each. There doesn't appear be an accident except on the opposite direction, about 5 mile past involving 2 cars.... and one cop car is there.

there is a police escort on the Belt right now. looks like that is what you are seeing. as to whom the escort is for, i have no idea.

and I see nothing except the report of the delay and that there is a police escort on the Belt. checking elsewhere, will let you know.
on edit: nothing specific but Gridlock Sam in the NY Daily News reported that BHO and HRC were in Manhattan this morning. so it's possible your traffic delay may be caused by one of them going to the airport.
