Anybody see this CNN Viagra/McCain segment?
Edited on Thu Jul-10-08 05:47 PM by no limit
It was on just a few minutes ago. How much more transparent can the media become when it comes to their love of John McCain? McCain was asked a very simple question today by a reporter. Does he think it's fair that health insurance providers can provide men with viagra but won't provide women with birth control. McCain sat there like a deer caught in the headlights and could not answer the basic question, eventually saying that he would have to get back to the reporter because he couldn't remember his record on this, you can see the exchange here:

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/07/10/mccain-avoids-viagra-question/

Instead of showing this for what it was, that the streight talk express has steered off the road a long time ago, they made most of the segment about the fact that McCain didn't want to talk about Viagra completely missing the point. Yet for the 4th of July weekend the story on all the major networks was that Obama was a flip flopper because of what he said about Iraq when in fact Obama was saying the same thing he's been always saying.

Gotta love the liberul media.

1. yeah, I've seen it a couple of times on tv today
and they are definitely trying to cover for McCain and make it seem like he didn't want to talk about viagra. It was a birth control question, retards, and he didn't even know his voting record or what type of stance he should pretend to have. And no touching on Miss carly fiorina being deliberately misleading about his record and stance on pro-choice in an effort to get disenchanted former Hillary supporters.

2. The eye-roll at 50 seconds is priceless.
The idiot just stands there, mute, for eight seconds.

But he recovers sufficiently enough to start flashing his POW wristband.

"I'll get back to you by the end of the day."

Translation: "When my handlers tell me what to say, we'll talk."

4. That was the worst "meltdown" I've ever seen by a professional
politician. When that tape gets widely circulated, it should end his candidacy. I think that the Republicans will replace him.

5. Well, they just hit him pretty hard on AC360
All three pundits (including GOPer Ed Rollins) took him apart, as well as host Campbell Brown.

6. they actually covered it fairly on Anderson Cooper 360!

I was so impressed! And they didn't make it into a thing about Viagra either! David Gergen said that it made it look like he was out of touch with women's concerns and mentioned that McCain had said recently that he didn't understand a computer, which also makes him look out of touch and very uncomfortable. It was so funny because David Gergen made a gesture when they brought up the clip that literally looked like he was shuddering and trying to prevent himself from throwing up. Ed Rollins said that McCain needed to study his record, and his surrogates needed to get back on message, and you couldn't say that Carly and Phil Gramms' view are not your own when they are trying to represent the candidates interests, and Robert Zimmerman said that it was the worst time for this to happen because this is supposed to be a moment when he is focusing on the women voters and their concerns. And the best part....they agreed with Cambell Brown that the worst part was that McCain treated the question as if it wasn't legitimate, when it should be!

7. Yes! I hope the dems use it in some ads.
It's worse than the question posed to Kennedy about why he wanted to be president (IMO). McCain didn't even remember his vote on the Medicare bill that contained birth control.

8. It should be made into a political ad for Obama...
Never before have I witnessed a career politician answer a question so poorly. Sad, very sad. It wasn't that hard of a question. All he had to say was that he supported both Viagra and birth control pills for women. A shrewd politician who's attempting to attract the female vote would have jumped at the chance to convince a few to support him. A really good politician would have managed to inject a little humor on his support for Viagra.

Successful politicians are usually masters at replying to questions without answering them if the answer might be controversial. McCain didn't even try to do the political tap dance. He merely stood with a confused expression on his face and puffs of smoke coming from his ears as the gears in his head overheated. He scored an F- on this question and he's supposed to be great at town hall meetings.

McCain is out of touch. I heard a report today that he doesn't understand PCs. He admits he doesn't understand economics. Why did the Republicans pick this man to run for POTUS.

His main qualification appears to be that he was a war hero in the Vietnam war. While that's great, the world has changed a lot since then.

10. I remember something pretty similar to this
during the 1993 mayoral race. During a debate the incumbent (Dennis Archer) was asked a question during a debate with opponent Sharon McPhail. He hummed and hawwed for about 45 straight seconds on camera. He sweated, blinked and wiped his brow but his answer wouldn't come. I can't even remember if he actually answered the question eventually.

She used it in a commercial against him. It was hilarious but it backfired on her. People said that it was mean spirited and underhanded. She lost the mayoral bid horribly.

13. Forget professional politicians
That was the worst response I've seen to direct questioning...EVER. I've see 2 and 3 year old kids with much better answers all the time.

In this little segment he admits or it must be inferred that.

He votes for things without even thinking about them, much less reading the legislation.

His campaign has an utterly distorted message and McCain has no ability to get his people on the same page.

That he has no general grasp of topics.

That he has no convictions and his character has no impact on his decisions since he must refer to his own record to determine his opinion on something.

He and his surrogates will literally say anything.

To me it's not about Viagra or birth control coverage, though that should endear few to him, it's about competence, judgment, and intellect.
I don't care what McCain's experience is, that interview really should finish him. How could anyone vote for the guy on the camera even for 3rd grade class treasurer? How can you possibly run on experience after that interview?

Experience is worthless if you don't learn anything from it. McCain's not real bright, he's more intellectually curious than Bush but has less processing power and is way less organized.

11. It really doesn't matter how much they try and spin it...
... because McCain looks and sounds terrible. If this little segment gets the same media exposure as the Rev. Wright excerpts did (which it won't, unfortunately), then McCain's campaign would be in serious trouble.
