AP: Obama camp seeks info on Dodd in veep search
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2008/jul/10/obama-camp-seeks-info-on-dodd-in-veep-search/

Barack Obama's presidential campaign has requested information from Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd as part of its search for a possible vice presidential candidate.

The former White House hopeful and Connecticut lawmaker indicated Wednesday that he has been approached by the campaign. "There's been some inquiries, yeah," Dodd said. "They ask for a lot of stuff. I'll leave it there."

Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton and Dodd's Senate office declined comment Thursday.

3. Interesting development.
I like Chris Dodd.

Can someone fill me in on what would happen if Obama were to select Dodd, and then the ticket go on to win in November --

Does Dodd run simultaneously for the Senate in Connecticut? Does he have to resign? Would Gov. Rell get to appoint Shays or someone even worse to replace him?

21. Hi there. Thank you for the info. I was just speculating on
whether a Senate seat would be at risk if Obama were to choose Dodd.

I like Dodd just fine but Shays replacing him would be problematic!

28. That does stink
We could then have a pretty blue state with 2 Republicans! (I doubt their legislature is Democratic enough to copy what MA did. In case Kerry won, they changed the law to a special election by passing a law and over riding Romney's veto.

I have the highest respect for Dodd, and feel he's in the Kennedy class, but I'm not sure if he would attract many voters.

9. I agree.. He ROCKED during the debates...

... but when they do the pros and cons list of each candidate and what they will bring..

..I wonder if he'd wind up with enough check marks under the "pros column"?

Interesting bc of his FISA stance and interesting bc of the "controversy" surrounding his morgage rate or whatever. Hmmmm. Or just a distraction fed to the press.

15. I think it's a red herring.
They have been tight lipped through the entire veep process. If they were seriously considering Dodd, we wouldn't hear about a request for info from the campaign.

6. Obama has several good choices. Dodd would be one of them.
He has principles. He has experience. He'd be ok.

Obama is going to win this thing unless he makes a big mistake. Dodd would not be a big mistake. in fact, he would add to the ticket.

8. If he wants to go that route I think he should pick Barney Frank
Granted Barney's homosexuality is obviously an issue but at this point I'd say fuck it. The conventional wisdom has already been shattered to pieces this election and Barney Frank would be a wonderful attack dog against McGramps. He'd also get the Hillary supporters more enthusiastic.

to attack for anybody, I think this is a given. The Countrywide thing from what I remember reading when it came out seemed to be nothing but nitpicking and searching for dirt whether there is some or not. I really really doubt that Dodd did anything wrong.

On Foreign Relations Comm., I'm pretty sure he chairs the subcommittee on that part of the world.

Banking Committee chair too?

Edit to add - I think Dodd is great, he was my #2 choice after Biden. I kinda want Dodd as Majority Leader though...

38. Not so sure
Kaine is pretty occupied in Virginia and I doubt he would want to cede control of the governorship to the Republican Lt. Gov especially while there is a legislative stalemate. Then again, I have no idea who Obama will pick.

48. Why would Kaine be such a great choice
except that he would increase the chances of winning VA? I think that the Obama camp has already said that geography will not be a major consideration in the choice. From what I know (admittedly, not very much)Kaine is rather green, and except his personal (as opposed to professional experience) background he does not bring much.

On the other hand, it would be fucking awesome to have a fellow alumnus be the VP.
