The General Election
What do we have to do to win the General Election?

First of all, we have to remember what 2000 and 2004 were like.

We have to remember the things that went wrong, when the Democrats didn't act quick enough to combat negative attack ads and the spreading of misinformation by the mainstream media.

We have to remember how we felt when John Kerry was swiftboated. I remember feeling like I was left in the dust. Feeling like everything that we had all worked for literally got flushed down the fucking toilet because no one stepped up to combat the lies that were being spread about him.

We have to remember how we felt when the Supreme Court decided George W. Bush would be our President.

We have to remember how we felt during the weeks following the election in 2000, and on November 3rd, 2004. I remember waking up, feeling a little sick, crying for a while and dragging my ass to work.

I think once we all think back to how we felt, we can unite behind Barack Obama. He isn't perfect. He's going to do some things that piss you off, he's going to do some things that will probably make you step back and go "damn!". But, he's going to do WHAT HE NEEDS TO DO TO GET ELECTED. The Obama campaign has shown a great deal of intelligence and grace thus far, they've made mistakes, but I think we have to have a little bit more confidence that they know what they're doing.

I am by no means stating that I don't think there's room for dissent, argue away.

Once we all re-realize that we're up against the RW attack machine, we'll stop doing their work for them and start rallying behind the presumptive Democratic nominee.

Oh yeah, once we do all that, we have to actually get our hands dirty and hit the phones, knock on doors and donate money (if we can afford it).

3. This has been said before
And it can't be said enough. There are people that are working against us, some right here on DU. We must be alert, no pun intended.

4. I know...
...I assume someone has probably stated this much more eloquently than myself.

I don't post very often, sometimes it's therapeutic to vent my thoughts into the ether :)
