Why is everyone so surprised? |
|
He said he was going to "reach across the aisle" and "compromise" to get things DONE in America, so why is everyone so prickly about Obama's latest move towards center?
This is why I never supported him from the beginning. That being said, however, Obama IS the Democratic candidate and I'm behind him now 100%. Still better than McSame.
And I'm still not surprised by what he's doing.

1. Most are not really paying attention. He indicated from the beginning his intentions. |
|
And it is also obvious that he has not really shifted to the right - he was there all along. Now it is up to each individual to decide for themselves how far right is too far right. For many, there is no "too far right" that would cost him their support. Obama supporters are trying to paint anyone who points put these facts as echoing right-wing talking points. They seem to be so enamoured that they confuse criticism from the left as republicon smears. And despite their stance that after the election is the time to "hold his feet to the fire" if he governs as a center-right politician, I seriously doubt they will tolerate criticism after November. The party line will be, "so, you wanted McInsane to win. We cannot give the GOP ammo for the mid-terms and 2012." Dissent will not be allowed, at least without the hyperbolic ostracism now rampant here and elsewhere in DemoLand.

That is fucking bullshit. Absolute fucking bullshit.
The ONLY reason for muting dissent now is to get him elected INSTEAD of McCain. Democrats are fucking NOTORIOUS for turning on their leaders - dissent is a hallmark of being a democrat.
Once he's elected Obama will NOT have a free ride. BUT WE HAVE TO FUCKING ELECT HIM FIRST.
Grow fucking up.

3. No. The Democratic power structure only turns on liberals like Jimmy Carter. A corporatist like |
|
Obama will be coddled and guided straight to the business-dominated agenda that is currently running interference for the pukes. Hell, they even sabotaged the Clinton healthcare efforts because of insurance and pharmco interests and Bill Clinton was no raging leftie. You need to "grow up" and recognize the obscenity that Amerika has become. Without someone at least as "moderate" as Feingold or Wellstone (rip) heading the effort, the corps that run this country will not be restrained. Obama is not that person. Never was and never will be.

4. I think a lot of people misinterpreted what that meant and also didn't know about his more centrist |
|
positions. I also think his strong statements against the war back then and now gave lots of people the impression he was left. But he isn't. I have always supported him knowing this.

7. Only surprised that the campaign is being clumsy and creating dissension |
|
needlessly.
The saving grace is that McCain's campaign is acting moronically in ways that defy rationalization.
I'll say one thing for Obama: thus far in his career, he's been a lucky politician. As has been said, better to have a lucky general....

8. FISA is not a move towards the center |
|
And even if it was, can't Mr. Obama, with his brillant oratory skills, convince these people that FISA is unconstitutional garbage?
