SNOPES ALERT: A bogus anti-Obama column by a bogus Maureen Dowd.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/donations.asp

Obama does NOT receive most of his political donations from a handful of shadowy foreign investors from "Saudi Arabia, Iran, and other Middle Eastern Countries." And Maureen Dowd, by her own admission, did NOT write this column.

11. Much as MoDo can get on my nerves, this is definitely
not her writing style. There isn't any "snark" in it and the writing structure just doesn't fit. I've read enough of Mo's stuff where had I not even been told she didn't write it, I would have been able to tell she didn't write it.

2. I'm sure I'll get this
from my idiot cousin-in-law. She believes every damn Obama smear that's sent to her.

I am soooo sick of these people. Is this all they have? Making up shit and passing it off as fact?

5. I got stuff like this too....
Sent back the snopes links to debunk them. They replied they were ignoring them because of Snope's "known left-wing socialist bias".

I ended up blocking their address.

6. Yes, I get it.
The true has a liberal bias. I think Stephen Colbert said that. Seems applicable.

4. Dowd is very careful not to use such emotional language; "shocking revelation"
is a dead giveaway. I don't like her but I read her and that doesn't sound a bit like her; but those unfamiliar with her wouldn't know that.

9. Your thread title had me thinking Dowd actually wrote it - it's rather unclear
Edited on Fri Jul-11-08 11:56 AM by Stephanie

Of course she had nothing to do with it.

Maureen Dowd Becomes Fictional Actor In Obama Smear

***

Where to begin? For starters, the average Obama contribution has been around $100, not $15. The campaign, by law, must disclose all donors who have given over $200. And, most obviously, a review of the paper of record shows that Dowd's column on June 29 was not on Obama fundraising but rather Hillary Clinton supporters.

Dowd herself found the email an exercise in absurdity, not to mention -- quite possibly -- the first time she's been indirectly involved in a smear campaign.

"The line about it being the 'most shocking revelation,' I don't think I've ever said those words, except in a satire. Also, it is about money, which I never write about," she told the Huffington Post. "Sometime you try and protest things you hear about, but sometimes it's just not worth it... It is hard to track down and control these things, and anyone who reads my column knows that this wasn't me. I got to the second line and I knew it wasn't me."

The Obama campaign, as is now its practice, addressed the fake Dowd column in a post today on its website, Fight the Smears. But sometimes it's worth noting just how outrageous and offensive -- both to Obama and the public's intelligence -- these attacks can be.

To anyone who sends this out as a serious argument:

First, include the Snopes link.

How can anyone take seriously an "article" which doesn't even have an author with the strength of their own convictions? When I have written things in the past, I PUT MY NAME ON THEM, NOT SOMEONE ELSE'S. Whoever wrote this knows how little their words mean, otherwise why hide behind someone else and not own up to writing it? That would only be done because they know that they need a big name to carry weight, because hat they have to say is laughable. These words are the words of a coward. Anyone who agrees with them has the thoughs of an idiot.

18. GOP dirty tricksters love to make up stuff and claim George Carlin, Jay Leno, or such wrote it.
Edited on Thu Jul-17-08 10:47 AM by TexasObserver
They love to pick some person who is known and claim the writing is theirs. Since the people who receive and believe such emails are idiots who will believe anything, people who don't want or read real news, the stories get passed around.

Challenge it. Write back "not written by Maureen Dowd, and not a word of truth to it."
