This is why you MUST do everything between now and election day...
Edited on Fri Jul-11-08 02:55 PM by Kerry2008
This thread is for those who say they'll hold their nose for Barack Obama. For those who say they'll vote for Obama because they're Democrats and they're voting for their party, and not for Obama. And this is for those who say they'll stay home, or worse yet consider vote for McCain....

This is why you MUST give every dime you can, volunteer any time you can to knock on doors or make phone calls, call and e-mail your friends and family to urge them into voting for Senator Obama.

Meet Senator John Kerry. He was our Democratic nominee in the year of 2004. We as a party were fed up with the dangerous direction that George W. Bush and Dick Cheney were taking us in. Americans were frustrated as well, but they worried if we changed course whether or not that would be the right move or not during the middle of a war. After a shocking comeback, Senator Kerry went onto become the Democratic nominee and picked this man to be his running mate....

Senator Edwards gave people hope and inspired people to believe we could have an America that one day put work before wealth, and gave everyone the opportunity to live the American Dream. Together they formed a powerful ticket. Senator Kerry represented the very definition of Presidential, and had the life experience and Washington experience to be the President of the United States. He had a valuable record on foreign policy, and understand the effects of war and knew the dramatic effects of a war that was going in the wrong direction with leaders not willing to change course. Senator Edwards made people believe again that their government could work for them again. Not since 1992 with Bill Clinton, had any politician give them hope that there were no voiceless Americans and we could build One America.

Together they were....

Kerry-Edwards was exactly what the doctor ordered in 2004!

What Kerry brought to the table, and what Edwards brought to the table. They played to each others strengths and weaknesses, and gave more Americans hope than any ticket in HISTORY!!

More people gave money to Kerry-Edwards than any Democratic ticket before then. More people voted for Kerry-Edwards than any Democratic ticket in history.

If you can't remember how hopeful you were in 2004, watch John Kerry at the DNC accepting our parties nomination. Watch it closely, and remember how deeply you believed we could beat Bush and put a Democrat in the White House:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=4MiBBb7DQpI

And while the Kerry campaign made some tragic and avoidable mistakes, nothing can change the fact that so many of us had hope in 2004.

Just like we have in 2008.

Now no doubt the Obama campaign has learned the lessons of 2004. But we must all learn the lessons as well. We watched them swift boaat, lie, distort, trash, and smear. And they'll do it again. All our hope in the world won't win this election, but our actions will. We have to work together in 2008. I don't want another ticket like Kerry-Edwards to go down the tubes because our country is worried about change. Our country is unsure about switching gears, and switching course.

We can do better. We will do better. We just have to work a little harder and a little smarter to do so...

If we work together, we can win in 2008. And prevent another talented ticket like Senator Kerry and Senator Edwards from slipping by, and missing the opportunity to represent us in the White House!!

(DISCLAIMER: DO NOT TAKE THIS THREAD AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO ATTACK JOHN KERRY. WE'VE BEEN THERE, DONE THAT. THIS ISN'T TO TALK ABOUT 2004, BUT TO REMIND ALL OF US OF THE HOPE WE HAD--AND THE TRAGIC FEELINGS WE HAD ONCE BUSH TOOK OFFICE AGAIN. I WANT US ALL TO REMEMBER THESE LESSONS TO WORK HARDER TO ELECT A DEMOCRAT IN 2008. DESPITE ANY FEELINGS TOWARDS KERRY AND THE CAMPAIGN HE RAN, ALL OF US CAN AGREE HE'S A GREAT SENATOR AND PARTY LEADER. WE CAN'T LET HIS FATE HAPPEN TO BARACK OBAMA.)

2. He's got my vote. That's it. FISA was his Iraqi War Resolution to me. Right
now, he's trashing his own brand.

4. I'm disappointed in him, too. But comparing to IWR? Give me a break.
Not even close.

7. The point is, Obama was making hay out of Hillary voting for the IWR. He
was not in the Senate. Now, that he is, and being a Constitutional scholar, he caved. I'm not equating trampling on the Constitution with tramping upon the people of a different country for their resources. Just making the point that he is all mouth when he happened to not be in the Senate, but when he is trying to get "swing voters," well, let's look the other way until getting into office and I get my principles back.

Wouldn't it be a laugh-riot if, after * signs the bill, he attaches a signing statement saying that he doesn't have to go to FISA. He didn't obey the law before.

That was the point.

9. The primaries are over. And Bush has always done what Bush
wants to do regardless of what bill is passed. So, your own post illustrates the fallacy of thinking the sky is falling because of this bill.

13. No, the sky isn't falling because of this bill. But, the Constitution is being
shredded. Constitution to Obama: Et tu, Brute?

My own post was to point out the fallacy of Obama's position that it forces * to FISA. It will not. Obama's explanation for his vote is nonsense.

8. Well, I guess you're leaving it up to us to work to get a democratic
president in office. Your vote is certainly appreciated, though.

Have you gone to Obama's web site to give your feedback? That is one thing you can definitely do to create something positive, even if you don't feel you can campaign or donate. We certainly need that kind of input, as well, and you sound like you are a progressive with some very definite ideas. Put your brain power to work.

And I apologize for assuming that you don't already do that. I'm just trying to encourage you, in case you haven't already done so.

3. I was able to support Kerry/Edwards with far more confidence.
Obama will get my vote, but my money and time are going to my progressive Congressional candidate.

6. What do you have to offer here in discussion of the presidential
election? But your representative certainly DOES need you and thank you very much for working on that at least.

5. Senators Kerry and Edwards can be proud of their campaign. It
will help pave the way for Obama this time. We have all learned from that campaign exactly how disgusting republicans can and will be. There are many, many people out there who regret believing the Swift Boat idiots and wish they had been more discerning.

Hopefully we have learned that it takes a lot of hard work on our part to get our team elected. I will do whatever I can.

Thank you for the thread.

12. I consider FISA purists the ENEMY. (not DU members, others)
You're right, Kerry2008, and it reminds me just how easily this election can go the wrong way.

Those on other discussion boards and blogs who insist on criticizing the candidate without even reading the bill, just to be pissy and pure, are endangering his chances.

People outside this board use the division here to further divide us and to make the candidate look weak.

Meanwhile, John McCain skates.

Stupid Stupid Stupid!

15. O's FISA Vote Makes Our Job Far More Difficult
That is the substance of most of the complaints about it here, including mine.

It would be beyond my abilities to justify Obama's FISA vote to another.
Most of these volunteering opportunities you urge upon us will require a great deal of that.

It is like the IWR in that it severely compromises the candidate's message.

I don't doubt that this has been accompanied by a precipitous drop in donations.
I'll donate, but not now. That would imply that I like being spied on, and I don't.
