They're slamming him on Gramm. They're slamming him on Social Security.

All of them are hammering him.

FINALLY.

PS - They all agreed that Gramm's comments are EXACTLY what the people in McCain's camp really think about the ecomony.

4. They just said he's NOT the "Straight Talking John McCain of 2000"
He's made too many deals with the devil to get the nomination.

Jonathan Alter just predicted that McCain's position on Social Security will be a huge vulnerability in the fall.

9. FINALLY!!
Maybe now the press will stop with this "maverick" crap.

He can only do so much lying and having senior moments before he starts getting called out on it.

10. I honestly think the only reason they use the word "maverick" is to equate him with Tom Cruise's..
character in Top Gun.

18. He's battling cancer. That tends to take a toll.
An unusual form of lymphoma, as I recall. :-(

20. Yes, poor guy.
He's always struck me as a decent person, although he is often too conservative for my tastes. I'm glad he survived. As a completely superficial observation though, I wonder why he doesn't shave the few hairs on the front of his head. I know it's the least of his worries and not really meaningful, but when you appear on TV people do judge your appearance. Still, it's kind of cool that he just doesn't bother.

Where the phrase was used in a similarly odd manner.

13. John McCain recently said he gave up the names of the Pittsburgh Steelers to his captors
when asked to name his squadron mates. But they pointed out that in his book, he said that it was the defensive line of the Green Bay Packers that he named when a POW. They also said that during the time he was a POW, both the Steelers and Packers had mediocre teams and it's unlikely the names of the defensive lines of either team were household names that McCain would have remembered.

The suggestion is that McCain made the story up about giving the names of a sports team to his North Vietnamese captors when they interrogated him, insisting on knowing the names of his fellow squadron members.

16. They JUST brought that up on Hardball!
It's been a pretty good episode today.

Mike Barnacle has been really reasonable as host.

17. Sorry I didn't make it clear in my post that I was referring to the talk on Hardball
I had never heard this story before hearing it today on Hardball. It's not only another example of McCain constantly playing up his past as a POW in his campaign (which he constantly denies doing as well), but also an example of his embellishing and embroidering on his story just a bit.

24. So does he just mention the name of the team that represents the state he's
in at that particular time? So, if he's in Texas, he'd say, I named all the Houston Oiler's? Or is he, as my mother-in-law says, "not quite right?"
