THE DEATH WISH SYNDROME

,,,Damn....we are but a strange species much like the lemmings....when there is too much of us...we have an ingrained DEATH WISH...??

2 Big Concerns and no one talks about it....Over Population and the Climate Change aspects....not addressing...ONLY TALKING...No Action....

We diddle in the Middle...

We reject

We wait for the MIRICLE to make it all good....

For that we await dire times...

20. Resource shortages as a result of overpopulation make it a critical issue.
Edited on Fri Jul-11-08 09:52 PM by Spider Jerusalem
Saying 'water shortages are a critical issue', or 'food shortages are a critical issue', or 'energy sources are a critical issue', while saying 'overpopulation isn't a critical issue', is just ridiculous, because overpopulation lies at the root of all of those.

22. It might also be because each person in the U.S. 20 times more than needed
we could healthily sustain the population we have right now + a couple billion, one of the key ways is using less land for meat products which takes about 12 times more land than fruits/veggies.

So the critical issue isn't how many people we have, it's how those people use resources.

12. Well, if the Rapture actually happens, the other bit of it is rather unpleasant.
Being familiar with the scenario I think I could wait for that.

7. nobody talks about these things? Maybe you are not listening
The rising oceans is a constant concern. We see items on the news almost every day. Glacial melting for the first time ever in winter time was on all the cable channels yesterday. The fact that the north pole will be free of ice for the first time since before mankind evolved was the story last week.

No, they are not spelling out that this causes the waters to rise but it is clearly implied and takes for granted that everyone watching the story knows that this is happening.

As for over population there have been concerns about this for at least forty years. We still discuss it constantly, but again not directly.

Every story about how developing countries are using more natural resources is a story about over population. Every story about famine is the same. If you look into the debate about renewable fuels the discussion inevitably turns to world hunger and how we can't afford to turn food into fuel (because of the population).

These discussions happen everyday, maybe you just need to listen harder.

16. I heard JJ ad nauseum however the oceans no. However,
I will say Obama did talk about the rising oceans and shared his concerns about global warming today in Dayton, Ohio. So don't worry, someone isn't forgetting and we're going to get things done. He even gave some solutions.

He's creating a 60 billion dollar plan focusing on alternative energy that decreases polution, our dependency on fossil fuels, solar, wind, and water energy as well as plans to make us all energy efficient in the US. This was in answer to someone's question on bike paths in towns for kids to go to school. He says this is all part of energy efficiency so we become independent by 2025 (I believe). So by stabilising infrastructure we can then also revitalize the atmosphere and lessening the stress on the mother nature, at the same time raising our awareness of the issues in the International world and show we can be as competent and vigilant as they are.

15. We Don't Have A Death Wish
quite the opposite is true.
It is our most primitive fear.
We do everything in our power to avoid thinking about it.
We don't think about it by distracting ourselves
and blindly thinking bad things won't happen to us.
Besides, the people who own our governments won't let
us take action on our long term problems
because it hurts profits.

19. You can't talk about breeding without talking about religion, and that's the sacred cow
Not only is it a hoary tenet of the major religions, it's a cynical attempt to win the numbers game. As a Hindi friend (a very liberal creative type) told me: we're not going to stop if the Muslims won't.

And so it goes...
