I am an Obama supporter, and have been since John Edwards dropped out of the race.

I fully support our nominee, and will do everything I can to help him be elected.

But have you considered the mountain of material that the Republican slime machine is armed with?

I doubt that the GOP will directly use the stuff, but their big-money 527's will play the Jeremiah Wright stuff up BIG! And like it or not, it's going to play well in big chunks of America, Not just in the south, or in the midwest, but in big chunks of Obama's perceived demographic all across the country.

I remember a story a few days ago, that I haven't successfully googled yet, where McCain predicted that he will be behind until two days before the election, when he will surge, and emerge the victor.

What the hell is that all about?

This isn't meant as a negative post at all. It's just intended to remind everyone, that despite the seeming inevitability of it all, we've got to do all we can to get Obama elected.

The Republicans ARE going to use dishonest tactics. That's one thing we can count on.

They are going to be on TV constantly screaming (sometimes silently) that Obama is some kind of secret Muslim terrorist. I wish I could confidently say "Americans are too smart for that." I'm afraid I can't.

Get the man elected. That's all I'm saying.

1. I have come across no credible and independent political scientist that does not think Sen. Obama
will probably win. Even the overwhelming majority of Republican oriented political scientist think Sen. Obama will probably win.

And let's just see what the financial prediction markets think:

How's it working out for them so far?

Not gonna stop working for him until he's elected, but fear is the republican card.

Just saying.

3. A benefit of the Democratic Primary battles
is that Obama's skeletons have already been taken out, thoroughly examined, and returned to the closet, *by his own Party*. The greatest bits of potential fuel for the Repugs have already been spent.

Also keep in mind that, come November, the Economy will be the number one issue (when people find themselves unable to afford to heat their homes). McCain will flounder.

4. Here's a news flash....outside of San Francisco and LA
there are plenty of rednecks in California as well. Rednecks do not live only in the south or midwest, they live all over the US. The US for the most part is a redneck country.

I don't think we've seen the worse of what the Republicans will throw at Barack Obama. Their convention is last and McCain will get the post convention bump at precisely the time he needs it, a few weeks before the convention. Couple that with a media that absolutely loves McCain and I say it's still a tough call.

In some ways I think the Jesse Jackson flap helps Obama because it distances him from Jackson's divisive politics.

5. Syrinx, you raise a good point. The last week of October will be fraught with tension like a
football game between intrastate rivals, one side 1 point behind, possessing the ball on the 20 yard line, and one play remaining.

7. thanks Jody!
I hope you are doing well!

Sure I hope Bama beats Auburn this year. But that's small potatoes.

If the Republicans get another term, the country is screwed for good. And we shall all pay.
