Trampled yard signs, defaced bumper stickers, crappy relatives
I am so pissed right now. I just came back from vacation to discover that my Obama yard sign -- the same one that was trampled early last week but I was able to repair it and put it back -- was stolen. THEN I discover that during the time my car was parked at my parents' house (my dad dropped me off at the airport), my mother and brother thought it would be soooooo funny to put a "Rush (Limbaugh) is always RIGHT" sticker over top of my Obama bumper sticker. I was so mad I was literally shaking, and here my mom was jeering, "What's wrong? Can't you take a joke? Teehee!" Mind you, this woman would have gone absolutely apeshit had I ever done anything to any of the Bush/Cheney stickers she's had on the hulking gas guzzlers she's driven over the last 8 years.

Anyway, after I cooled down, I started a personal fundraising page for the Obama campaign. Each $5 contribution is my little way of saying "FU" to the vandals. Please give a little if you can. (Not to take away from the DU campaign fundraising page; save your larger donations for Skinner and Co.)

http://my.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/main/Blondiegrrl007

Thanks.

(Oy. My head hurts.)

1. You should tell your family how much you have raised because of their "prank"
They deserve some "payback."

8. she just opened herself up ... make use of it
just before the next time she goes to church or some other event where a lot of people will see her, plaster over her Bush stickers with not Obama stickers, but with stuff like "tree hugging dirt worshiper" or "2009 The end of an error"

then you can do the exact same "What's wrong? Can't you take a joke?" thing

personally, I'd go for the most offensive anti-conservative stickers I could find

16. I would SO do that.
And don't just cover the ones that are there....put on extra ones in the spaces in between!!

These people are such ASSHOLES. We liberals are always SO serious, and we're so rude, and awful...but they pull crap like this, and then it's "Well we were just joking!" And we're humorless if we get angry or fight back.

Nice family, as someone else said. I've cut people out of my life for shit like that. Why should I make myself unhealthy dealing with their crap?

I'll bet the holidays are a scream at their place. :eyes:

17. It's so tempting. But we get pretty ugly when we fight, and I don't want
my daughter to get caught up in the crossfire.

Maybe I'll just sign her up for a few dozen "loony left" newsletters. Let her get spammed for awhile.

My first election, my father was working himself to the bone scraping my

"Lick Dick in'72" bumperstickers off my car.

But, I had a hundred of them!

That reminds me of a sign down here that was up briefly, advertising a snack shop called Dick's HotDogs. Their sign read "If you like hotdogs, you'll love Dicks!". LOL.

21. Ooh, the "Do you wish you had voted for Kerry yet?" is a lovely one.
The "soldiers per gallon" one gives me chills. Especially now -- my husband's Guard unit is in rotation to go to Iraq next year. He'll get the official word (yea or nay) probably by the end of August, but signs don't look so good.

Very frustrating having fundy parents. My father told me the other day he thought Carter should be shot. This from a man who ran a solar panel company in the 70's. I wanted to slap him.

32. Yeah. I'm sorry about that
I know your pain. The men tend toward douche(in increasing amounts as they age), but the women tend to have their heads on straight.

Thus every 4 years, my grandfather tries to get everyone to put up signs for the repub du jour. He knows better than to ask me anymore. Fortunately he is such an ass that i'm pretty sure his signs actually convince more of his neighbors to go the opposite direction.

Then theres my uncle, who is too drunk to participate in any direction other than the odd stuperous comment about _____(fill in minority group of choice here, Californians, and Taxes.

And then my dad, who worked to get Hillary the nomination because he was convinced that she was the only chance that McCain had to win, and "he has to win" because "We broke Iraq, and we have a responsibility to fix it."

I am lucky, though, that the heart of my family is all quietly democratically oriented. And being the oldest in my generation, I have had the chance to bring all my cousins into the fold. I am not so quiet about it, though.

In the mean time, I advise to choose your battles. It all depends on your relationship with the people involved. If my Grandfather did what your family did, I would likely smash all his car windows with a bat and then cover his house with Obama paraphernalia. Whereas if my dad did it, I would likely end up having a serious conversation where we would agree to disagree, and be respectful of private property in the future. And if my uncle did it, I would probably just pull the sticker and forget it, because I'd know it was his neighbors idea of a funny thing to convince him to do while he was drunk.

That's just ... odd.

My dad told me today that he thinks the biggest problem in the U.S. today is ... *drum roll* ... illegal immigration.

A genuine Libertarian Republican Pacifist NRA 2nd amendment will save us from the govt type, with a side of "I dont believe in borders, people should be allowed to go where they want(based on his reading of the bible, no less)" and a side of "Universal healthcare for all". Loves Bill Clinton, Hates Hillary, Spent his time in the service in Iran, and thinks its a great country and we should leave them alone, but that we have a responsibility to see Iraq through(though I still havnt been able to get him to solidify what that means.

I could give you more. But I'm pretty sure that starts to paint the picture.

27. I take it they have a habit doing things like this?
I would have gone off like a Roman candle (but then, I'm Irish). There is more to this than just a bumper sticker. Obviously they have no ability to respect your right to your own opinions. And telling you that it's just a joke is nothing more than a not-so-subtle form of bullying. They need to be told in no undertain terms that either they apologize and knock it off or you will not be speaking to them again. Doesn't sound like they're very pleasant company anyway. I'm no psychologist, but that's what I think.

(my brother and my mother, that is) and let off a stream of expletives that would have made a sailor like John McCain (*snicker*) proud. The most infuriating aspect of this is that, yes, they do shit like this in the name of "fun." And if I don't laugh at their clever little jokes, then I'm accused of having no sense of humor. But if the tables were turned and I did the same thing to them, they would burst a blood vessel. Hypocrites!

They need to be told in no undertain terms that either they apologize and knock it off or you will not be speaking to them again.

I definitely will tell them that. I was a little too inflamed to get to that in my phone conversations (I didn't quite get past the "Rush Limbaugh is a piece of shit and don't you ever touch my car again" part before I hung up), but that will be my next point I raise. This incident has merely been the latest in a long line of crap I've taken from them. (My dad, BTW, leans conservative, but he respects my opinion and doesn't try to pick fights with me. I just wish he'd he'd tell the other two to knock it off. I don't appreciate being tag-teamed.)
