Good God Almighty! STFU about the New Yorker...
"Ooooh, oooh, oooh! What are the people gonna think when they pass by it on the newstands?"

"OMIGOD! The press will have a field day!"

"Aaaak! Hannity O'Reilly will splay it all over their shows!"

"People will get the wrong impression-- we're trying to fight that stuff."

"THE NEW YORKER IS DEAD TO ME NOW!"

Jeez-- all this concern about what might happen. All this concern about what "people might think about it... Ya know, if you had a job and you spent all this time whining about how difficult it was, you wouldn't have that job very long.

Fercrissakes, we can't have it both ways and accept free speech except for stuff we don't like, and, more important, if this stops the Obama campaign in its tracks, we're in deeper shit than we thought. We the Democratic Party, not we the country.

So, STFU, stop wasting all this time whining about a magazine cover and get out there and get Obama elected.

1. I'll kick and rec this.
People who plan on voting for Obama won't be swayed into voting for McHundredYearsinIraq by this type of satire.

3. When a liberal, elitist magazine is perceived as "attacking"
Obama it helps him win over low information voters. When Jesse Jackson is seen verbally insulting Obama it helps him win over low information voters. When DU pitches fits about Obama's FISA vote it helps him win over low information voters. Keep pitching fits, these are all moves on the chessboard.

4. That's fine, except that I can't stand this "free speech" stupidity.....
Can someone please tell me what the first 5 words of the First Amendment are?

Now tell me how "free speech" is relevant IN THE LEAST to what's being talked about?

The New Yorker has every right to do what they did. And, I have every right not to purchase the New Yorker. No biggie.

9. Nooooooo!
We need more threads about it. This is a magazine with HUGH market penetration throughout the red states. Low information voters always take their cue from it. We're just not worried enough yet!

16. Every well informed person and certainly everyone who
Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 07:43 AM by JoFerret
dispenses "opinions" on the cable news shows has to be at least familiar with stories like these:

http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2007/06/25/070625fa_fact_hersh?printable=true

And that's just for starters.
The fact that YOU did not get the news directly from the NYer does not mean it was not a significant source.

There are MANY other examples like that one where the NYer spends the time to go a little further, a little deeper. And the results have been significant. The impact important. The record established.

People who care about such things - THAT's who actually reads the New Yorker. People who want to be informed.

11. Yep...
Well, at least it replaced FISA for garbage du jour - in excess.

What's on the menu for Monday's glut? How 'bout something very positive - for a change. "Sean Hannity has seen the light and is a born again Obama supporter."

This isn't satire. This is out and out racism, from New York, Hillary's state.

17. I think the cover is unfortunate
Thanks to the M$M a majority of Amuricans already believe Obama is unpatriotic, scary, radical and a terrorist sympathizer.

I get the attempt at satire. I would find it funny if a majority of Amuricans didn't already believe Obama is unpatriotic, scary, radical and a terrorist sympathizer.

I defend the New Yorker's right to publish anything they want.

I just think it isn't helpful.

21. And we have the right to heap scorn on it.
If I was stupid enough to live in the death-loving city of New York, and I was near the artist, the editor or anyone who worked for that stupid rag, I'd be the biggest annoyance they ever knew since their landlords raised the rent on their hovels. And if anyone is in that position, please fill their ears with the angry screams of the people who live in the real parts of America. Thank you.

20. Free speech is one thing...
And it has to do with our individual rights of free expression that cannot be squelched by the government through litigious means.

This is about journalistic fairness on issues of controversial import, which the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine in 1987 made obsolete. Nevertheless there is no need for outrage here, as you've pointed out.

Those that read the New Yorker are likely to see that as an edgy satire of the MSM's continued predilections for fabricated news and sound-bite nonsense. How many idiotic meme fabrications can you find in the cover? Kind of reminds you of Fr. Guido Sarducci's Find the Popes in the Pizza contest.

I am sick and fucking tired of the miserable cretins that inhabit this board that feel it is their prerogative to tell me what to think and say. No fucking thank you!!! I have a mind, and I'm not afraid to use it!

Wake Up America!
