3. We need HUNDREDS more... |

the world must know the FULL OUTRAGE of DU over this abomination.
Or something like that. Maybe it's just time to admit this thing is so silly and go with it.
(and Klem Kadiddlehopper spelled it that way.)

a REAL person, spelled it properly. :D
And yes, this IS supremely silly. Now the concern is that the average American won't "get it". When you point out that the average American doesn't read the New Yorker, the argument switches to "Bill O'Reilly et. al. will blast this everywhere", but they refuse to understand that this cartoon satirizes the Bill O'Reilly's of the world, not the Obamas.

"it will be in every supermarket in America".
I wonder what supermarket they go to that sells "The New Yorker". It's not exactly "O" or "People".

14. What, exactly, are the circulation figures for the New Yorker? |
|
I just don't see this as some big emergency for a relatively low circulation magazine. Perhaps the words "New Yorker" in the title leads me to believe that it won't be stocked in every White Hen Pantry in every small town in America. I don't see why we should be grabbing the pitchforks and torches and storm the New Yorker offices. Are we supposed to be burning Tina Brown in effgy now (ok, I'm probably behind the times as to who's running the New Yorker).

9. Don't worry, I'm pretty sure your ridiculous strawman isn't voting for Obama anyway. |

Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 02:22 AM by Occam Bandage
Edit: Or reading the New Yorker, for that matter.

11. Anyone who's not going to vote for him because of that cover |
|
wasn't going to vote for him anyway. It's NOT going to cost him the election folks. Republican cheating (as per usual) might, but the New Yorker cover will not.

15. Uh oh, you missed the OP's satire! |
|
The New Yorker cover is not going to change the Klem voters.
The only real problem here is that our bias against "low information" voters could be touted in RW boards as proof of our "hypocrisy" and our hatred of the average man or woman.
The magazine cover can also be used as a "teachable moment" device. Draw out the absurdity of this cartoon and contrast it to the actual images of Barack and Michelle. Barack giving speeches to thousands of supporters. Michelle on "The View." The family pictures that emerged over the 4th of July.
