Mark Sanford Draws A Blank On McCain/Bush Economics
On CNN, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R-SC) (who is on MCCain's VP List) was asked to explain the differences between McCain's economic plan and the Bush administration, a moment Nico Pitney calls the "most painful clip" from Sunday morning television.

BLITZER: Are there any significant economic differences between what the Bush administration has put forward over these many years as opposed to now what John McCain supports?

SANFORD: Um, yeah. For instance, take, you know, take, for instance, the issue of -- I'm drawing a blank, and I hate it when I do that, particularly on television. Take, for instance the contrast on NAFTA. I mean, I think that the bigger issue is credibility in where one is coming from, are they consistent where they come from.

2. Contrast on NAFTA? Must mean that McCain loves it more than Bush ...
11/19/1993, John McCain, on the Senate floor:

"Wednesday, over three-fourths of the Republican Members voted for NAFTA. Considerably fewer than half of the Democratic Members followed their example. By any fair reckoning, Newt Gingrich and his fellow Republicans deserve more than half the credit for NAFTA's approval in the other body. And, I am confident that well over half the support which NAFTA will receive in the Senate will come from Republican Members.

It is not clear to me today that Republicans are receiving the credit that they truly deserve. NAFTA was envisioned by a Republican, negotiated by a Republican, and passed by Republicans."

4. OMFG... Mr. Sanford was a DEER IN THE HEADLIGHTS !!!

I cracked up when Rachel Maddow showed that on Olbermann!!

Then later, Ansderson Cooper said something about mcsame scratching another one off his short list.

I hope they put that dude out there more often !!!!!

Kev, your transcription just doesn't give Sanford justice. It just doesn't show all the hemming and hawing and dead air inbetween responses!

5. jeez

That was priceless wasn't it?

Really, you need to see this though. Just seeing the transcript just isn't the same. The stammering, the pauses, yeah umm ... well there's uh ... the things is ah ... LOL

Do you have any idea how frustrating it is dealing with any of SC's elected officials :banghead: not to mention embarrassing when they are in the national spotlight for whatever reason?
