O'Bama to Ireland?
Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 09:06 AM by jefferson_dem

"House aides confirmed yesterday that Rep. Richard E. Neal (D-Mass.) is encouraging Obama to add a visit to Ireland to his agenda, holding the nation out as a model of conflict resolution. Appearing there would also serve as a boost for Obama among the tens of millions of Irish in the United States."

5. The Irish economy is not doing so well.
Perhaps their economy is better than ours, but that's not saying much.

"ESRI says the Irish economy will experience a recession in 2008 - the first time since 1983; Dramatic slowdown will result in sharp rise in public finances deficit.

The ESRI expects GNP to fall by 0.4 percent in real terms in 2008. This implies that Ireland will experience its first recession since 1983.

- This forecast for 2008 represents another in a series of downward revisions to our forecasts for 2008. In earlier Commentaries, the downward revisions were related to an acceleration in the construction downturn. This time, it is the revised forecast for consumption that contributes most to the overall revision. The Institute now expect consumption to grow by just 1 percent in 2008. This is a dramatic slowdown from the last three years when consumption growth has averaged over 6 percent."

2. Well he has relatives in Moneygall, on his mothers side
that is the name of the town. I read somewhere back around St Pattys day, that the town is embracing Barack as their hometown son, as towns in Ireland did with Kennedy and Regan and Clinton. Each city that traces its ancestry to an American president, tends to celebrate their American kith and kin.

3. One of the 'Youngest' Nations
in the European block -- they've got a huge population under 30 -- he'd appear there before crowds of excited young faces. Great photos around every corner and that wonderful Irish light pouring down. The news-services and the MSM will go nuts and McCain will look like the tired pol he is.
