We really need to do something about these Low Information Voters
Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 09:54 AM by Goblinmonger
that everyone is talking about. Because from what I am hearing on DU, they are just too damned stupid to even breathe. Isn't there some way to have a test to take in order to vote so that only people as smart as us are allowed to. Apparently there are all kinds of people out there that only vote on election years and these people haven't even heard of satire much less The New Yorker. If you put a shiny object in front of them, they are uncontrollably drawn to it and cannot resist. I already hear the zombie-like chants in the streets of "Obama is Muslim; must not vote for him." What ever can we do to save ourselves from these less than human mouth breathers? Surely we should be able to save ourselves from them.

Some times the arrogance on DU just stuns me.

4. I will flog it
as long as people prop it up and walk it around like it is true.

What is tiresome is the arrogant attitude that people on DU take toward those that don't make politics a part of their daily life.

8. No, don't build those strawmen so quickly.
I will call them pricks for being arrogant enough to think that.

And if you are going to make fun of me for being "Mr FreeSpeech" you might want to think about the fact that me being able to say that would fit right in line with the concept of Free Speech. If I were to say that they shouldn't SAY that, I would be contradicting myself. They can say what they want. And I can say they are pricks for saying it. That's not a contradiction. Nice try, though.

18. I have no problem with people who do not make politics central to their lives.
My problem is with people who DO make STUPIDITY central to their lives.

5. Like the Libertarians say, we believe we have to...
lead them by the hand and protect them lest they hurt themselves.

We are the nanny state.

12. Hunter Thompson described himself as a "Coercive Libertarian"
He thought people should be free, whether they wanted freedom or not.

Though he meant it as partly a joke, that's actually kind of the point of our Constitution.

Even if you desperately want the government to tell you how to think, it isn't allowed to. Sorry.

10. There are a lot of stupid fucking people in this country.
And not just regular stupid. Dumb-assed-knuckle-dragging stupid. And if *you* dont get that, *you* might just be one of them. Get a grip.

George Bush is still President. And you want to pretend the masses are smart? Good gawd. :eyes:

the attitudes I have read on DU in the past day do much to counter any perceptions of liberals as elitist.

16. I hid all the New Yorker threads...
so I'm not really sure what you're referring too. Im just saying that millions Americans are stupid. If acknowledging that makes me an elitist, sobeit.

11. I prefer to see it as "bad information" not low
it's not the quantity of information, it's the quality.

And while I get your point, I also say it has been a problem for some time. I blame the media more than the masses, however.

15. hate to say this but...
there's some folks in my neck o'the woods who can't even spell satire much less get it.

I still can't understand how that thing we refer to as a president was elected for a 2nd term yet "nobody" admits to voting for him. How can THAT be?

Lawd hammercy, low info voters are alive and well.

sad but true.
