The New Yorker Sneak Attack |
|
So far, I've seen the effects of The New Yorker do the following: 1. Unify the Democrats (anger/outrage over the cover and the article) 2. Force RWers to attack The New Yorker and actually defend Obama (Fox&Friends actually was defending Obama on this and CBN released a damning statement condemning The New Yorker). The RW media does not want to be painted with the absurdity that is actually theirs. IMO, that is what is making this so ironic.
I know people here are defending The New Yorker and that is fine. The New Yorker is predominantly liberal. But this cover piece and detached article demand outrage from us. It is not satire in my opinion. At best, and it requires tinfoil, this piece was a sneak attack to force people to realize how absurd the RW media is by getting the RW media to attack something so outrageous. If that was The New Yorkers mission, then, well, it's accomplished. I honestly do not know, but I can see the impact it is having.

1. Are you kidding? If it's making Fox defend Obama then it's a home run. |

If the RW media is attacking the New Yorker because of this cartoon, that means at least THEY understand it's a slam against them and their 'terrorist fist jabs'.
I say 'Mission Accomplished" :applause:

2. I am just catching up on these threads, but my first thought when |
|
I saw it was "How dare they not take this election seriously." Now, maybe I need to catchup on my reading and rethink that statement. But like I said, that was my very first impression after looking at the cover.
Off to read more...

6. You need to lower your IQ about 25 points to become sufficiently outraged over this cartoon |

3. If the article had reinforced the statement made by the cover cartoon, that would've been different. |
|
But the article was, to me, a very negative take on Obama's motives and character. It did not deal with the issue of the politics of fear and smear. It was a hit piece. Pair that with the cover, and it makes me wonder what their motives were.
To scare off voters who may be turning toward Obama, and to plant a question mark in the minds of those who admire and support him?
I think the author's only goal was to do the foregoing, to divide Obama's supporters, and to be able to say, "Fission Accomplished."
But it ain't gonna work.

8. Fox "News" defending Obama? Sounds like a joke to me. This is good stuff for their message. |
