MCCAIN ECONOMIC POLICY OUT OF TOUCH, HURTS HISPANICS
MCCAIN ECONOMIC POLICY OUT OF TOUCH, HURTS HISPANICS

McCain supports the continuation of Bush’s policies — which caused increases in Hispanic unemployment, decreases in income, and increases in the number of Hispanics living below the poverty level.

Hispanic unemployment has increased. Hispanic unemployment rose from 5.5 percent in April 2008 to 7.7 percent in June 2008. The unemployment rate for all non-Hispanics was 4.7 percent. At the end of the first quarter of 2008, 8.4 percent of Mexican immigrants were unemployed.

* Hispanic median income has decreased. Median income for Hispanics in constant 2005 dollars decreased by $1,176 from when Bush took office to 2005.
* The number of Hispanics living in poverty has increased. The percent of Hispanics and Hispanics below poverty level has increased under Bush (2001 to 2005).
* The number of Hispanic children living in poverty has increased. Hispanic children below poverty level increased under Bush (2001-2005).

* Bush’s failed policies have broken our economy – and McCain’s policies would only make our economic crisis worse. McCain’s plan not only makes Bush’s tax cuts permanent, but offers massive new corporate tax cuts. McCain’s plan would create the highest federal budget deficit in 25 years according to an analysis by the Center for American Progress Action Fund.

Wall Street Journal: McCain policies will “explode deficit” or result in “unprecedented spending cuts equal to one-third of federal spending on domestic programs.”

New York Times editorial: “Mr. McCain’s main campaign promises, if fulfilled, would lead to huge budget deficits…Mr. McCain cannot balance the budget on a crusade against pork and a one-year freeze in a sliver of federal spending. Either he has a secret plan to balance the budget or he’s blowing smoke.”

2. Since we know that the stated unemployment rates are crap
The true number is probably much higher. I estimate that the real total unemployment rate is 10-12%. For minorities, it's probably about 20%.
