Holy Crap! My Uber-Republican Aunt likes Obama! |
|
I just got back from a family reunion where she dropped this bombshell: she says she's really considering voting for Obama and "has some serious problems with McCain (including Cindy)"
:wow:
She's already read Dreams From My Father and is half way through The Audacity of Hope!
:wow:
And...she even wants me to send her some Obama related emails!
:wow:
I was flabbergasted. Dumbstruck. Bowled over. The last time I saw her (2006) she was still firmly in the Republican camp. I always thought of her as the stereotypical Republican - Evangelical Xian, pro-life, pro-war, small government, lower taxes, the whole package. Apparently that kool-aid has lost some of it's flavor. She hasn't done a complete 180, but she is turning our way!
While I'll continue to get moranic emails from other RW family members, it's heartening to see that at least some aren't falling for the flag-pin gate or fist-bump gate nonsense.

3. Yeah, I don't think she's ready for this just yet! |
|
I think a day on this site would make her run right back to Bush country.

And voted Bush in 2000 and 2004. Now he has nothing but anger toward Bush and McCain. He won't be voting McCain. I'm not even going to ask his opinion on Obama but he knows I support him.
The former RW'er now watches OLBERMANN! Amazing.

I guess it took the abject failure of the Bush administration to wake up some of America.

I'm afraid my father is too far gone to make this kind of turnaround, but I can always hope.

Good idea though. I'll have to go that route if I decide to wade into those waters. :scared:

The other night, while working the dinner service at the restaurant at which I'm employed, I was surprised and delighted by an impromptu discussion by diners, across tables, of how much the GOP sucked. :-)
