David Plouffe: What they're Bragging About
The McCain campaign is bragging that they are out-raising and out-spending us.

They had their best month ever in June, and combined with the Republican National Committee, they now have more than $95 million in cash on hand.

With this massive fundraising effort, they claim they've been out-spending us 3-to-1 on TV ads over the past couple months.

Unfortunately, when it comes to collecting giant checks from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs, McCain and the RNC do have a lot to brag about.

They are raking in huge donations from those who want to keep Washington just the way it is. And they are pulling ahead in the money race.

To compete against these big money interests in all 50 states, this campaign is relying on you.

We need to respond to the McCain campaign and show them how presidential campaigns should be funded -- by ordinary people like you giving only what you can afford.

Your past support has gotten us this far, and we are extremely grateful. But today, we need your help again.

I recorded a short video in my office about what we are up against. Watch the video and make a donation of $25 now:

As much money as they already have, this is just the beginning.

On top of their current $95 million in cash on hand, the campaign has said they expect to raise another $95 million by the end of the summer.

Based on their record so far, they're good for it.

They know that the big money interests will continue pouring millions into McCain's campaign, the RNC, and shadowy outside money groups -- whatever it takes to stop our movement so they can hold on to their influence in Washington.

It's going to take unprecedented resources and organization to compete against this broken, entrenched system.

Together, we've created the largest grassroots movement in history, and your efforts have put us in a position to build a campaign for change in all 50 states. Now, we need your help to keep us in a strong position at this crucial moment.

Watch the video and make another donation of $25 to help this movement take on John McCain and the RNC:

https://donate.barackobama.com/yourhelp

Together, we have already accomplished so much in this campaign. But we cannot take it for granted.

This grassroots movement won't just happen on its own. It's up to you to make it happen.

John McCain and the RNC are committed to stopping us -- and they are prepared to raise and spend as much as they can from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs.

We must let them know that this time, the election won't be bought by big money interests. And that a campaign of grassroots donors can overcome the entrenched Washington powers to bring about the change we need.

It's up to you. Please step up again and make a donation of $25 today:

https://donate.barackobama.com/yourhelp

Thanks,

David

Come on Folks......Step it up or we lose. Its that simple

7. The RNC and the Repig Governors are Taking the Big Donations
and they have their 527s, of course, which are not subject to the same restrictions that Democratic 527s are.

8. And the RNC can give money to McCain?!
Because if thats the case, the whole public financing argument is bullshit since the RNC takes lobbyist money, etc. ugh! :banghead:

The Repig Governors' conference is taking the really BIG donations, since they have no limits at all.

It all goes into McInsane's campaign coffers.

Even that is a drop in the bucket compared to all the FREE airtime they get from EVERY broadcast and cable "news" network.

10. Well now that really frosts my ass.
So while the MSM, the print news, and many Democrats were ripping Obama apart for not taking public financing, McCain takes the gov't money and *still* gets to use all the lobbyist and corporate money he wants. What the hell kind of "public financing" system is that?!

Meh. Everyone ripped Obama for saying the system was broken. Seems pretty damn broken to me. :grr:

4. This morning on Joey Scar, the always-well-informed host commented
that McSame was being outspent by Obama, so the close poll numbers spell real trouble. Evidently, Joey Scar needs to bone up on some facts, as usual.

donating in record amounts.

We know the left is just a tiny portion of the voting public, (I know this because a number of DUers keep making this point)yet when they thought Obama was to the left of Hillary they pumped major money into the campaign.

Since Obama has begun to broaden his appeal to the vast center, one would think by sheer numbers that Obama would be doing much better now than back a couple of months ago.

Maybe one of the people who keeps pointing out that Americans are mostly centrists can explain what's going on here. Shouldn't Obama be taking in lots more money now than a month ago, now that he's been appealing to the center?

Edited to add. While I was personally very opposed to FISA, I'm much more ambivalent about Government support of house of religion delivered social services. It makes me a lttle nervous on the face of it, but at this point it's only a proposal, not a finalized or done deal.

My post is directed to the political aspect of raising funds instead of the policy aspect.

12. Why are we trying to retire HRC's debt?
Can you say "bailout"? HRC is so deeply immersed in DC+Corporate ideology that she may as well just say it:

"HEY! It was a blast spending all that money on ME ME MEEEEEEE but--well-turns out that now someone has to pay for it! Yep! You know all that damage I did to Barack? Get this -- I paid for it with a credit card! I did! And you can't possibly expect the person who gambled with borrowed money to pay it back herself, can you? Come on! You OWE me a bailout. Look, I'm wealthy and infuential, and I gambled bigtime...overdid it, perhaps. Luckily, this is America in the new millenium -- so you must pony up and cover me. It's how the game is played now, baby! I'm in Congress and that's how we roll!"

17. haha, thanks
cripes is an old timey word - I think it is a stand in for 'O Christ!' but that wouldn't fly too well in front of your religious neightbors. just guessing but it makes sense to me so I will keep it until a better one comes along.
