Obama To Deliver Major Speech On Iraq Tomorrow

Obama To Deliver Major Speech On Iraq Tomorrow

By Greg Sargent - July 14, 2008, 10:53AM

Obama spokesperson Nick Shapiro, in a statement:

On Tuesday, Obama will deliver a major policy address on Iraq and national security in Washington. He will focus on the global strategic interests of the United States, which includes ending our misguided effort in Iraq.

As http://thepage.time.com/2008/07/14/obama-outlines-iraq-plan-in-nyt/">Mark Halperin notes, this comes a day after Obama http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/14/opinion/14obama.html?ref=opinion">published an Op ed in The New York Times reiterating that the troops should be withdrawn in 16 months.

Tomorrow's speech will be closely watched by people looking to skewer the "Obama-flip-flopped-on-Iraq" narrative -- and by others, inside and outside the McCain campaign, who are looking to advance it

The Obama campaign will also hold a reporters' conference call on Obama's Iraq plan with Senator Joe Biden and foreign policy adviser Susan Rice today at 12:30, an Obama campaign aide tells me. It appears that the Obama campaign is undertaking a serious Iraq offensive.

7. Sort of doubt it.
The commentators are too busy
being camera hogs.
No time for Obama, unless he's mouthing words,
while they talk over him.

They will let you know what is important,
and will show a selected soundbyte of the speech
after the speech is completed.

Thank you for your inquiry into this matter.

8. Update 2...

Obama: Iraq “Distracts Us,” Need to Focus on Afghanistan

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

The Illinois Senator is set to give a http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1822791,00.html">policy address on Iraq and national security at the International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. at 10:45 am ET.

He plans to say what is missing from U.S. policy on Iraq is “a discussion of the strategic consequences of Iraq and its dominance of our foreign policy.”

Says he’ll make the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban a “top priority.”

“In fact – as should have been apparent to President Bush and Senator McCain – the central front in the war on terror is not Iraq, and it never was.”

9. I really hope that he brings up McThuselah's Baghdad Market visit.
In 2007, McThuselah, accompanied by 100 armed US Marines, helicopter gunships and armoured Humvees, toured a Baghdad market, pronounced it "safe" and then proposterously LIED about Gen. Casey being able to drive around Baghdad neighbourhoods in UNARMOURED vehicles...

One day later, the same Baghdad market was attacked by insurgents, 21 hotages were taken from the market, shot in the head and their bodies were dumped just outside the city.

I have NEVER seen this reported (or MENTIONED, for that matter) on L$M teevee, though it WAS reported by WaPo, at the time...
