McCain: "Bin Laden may have just given us a little boost. Amazing, huh?"

Flashback: McCain Said Specter Of Terror Attack Would Help GOP Politically

By Greg Sargent - July 14, 2008, 12:32PM

As noted below, the McCain campaign is http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/07/mccain_campaign_obama_dems_wan.php">now arguing that Obama and the Democrats want to lose in Iraq precisely because it will help them politically.

This is tantamount to an accusation of treason. What will the national press do with this?

That aside, we thought it worthwhile to recall that McCain himself has actually said something along the lines of what Dems are being accused of thinking. During the 2004 elections, McCain http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/06/mccain_in_2004_bin_laden_may_h.php">said the following about the recent surfacing of a Bin Laden tape...

"Bin Laden may have just given us a little boost. Amazing, huh?"

McCain also said that the video is "helpful to President Bush because it puts the focus on the war on terrorism."

The McCain campaign is merely accusing Obama and Dems of wanting American deaths because it will help them politically. McCain, meanwhile, actually said that the specter of a lethal terrorist attack on American soil would help the GOP. The point, again, is that Republicans actually think this way.

1. yes they do think this way...
and they assume that everyone else does too. It's lack of morality that causes it.

2. Not to mention that many questioned whether this was just Bush's luck
There was speculation about whether it was fake (the English vice is dubbed - so you just need someone who looks like OBL in any of his pictures) or merely help for the opportune moment. Without it we would have threads bashing incumbent President Kerry for not doing everything that everyone wanted. (The 2005 threads on the wisdom of running a high road campaign that left him looking Presidential and reasonable would have been fun as the threads on how the SBVT backfired.)
