A refreshing moment of outrage at the opponent: Cindy McCain just made how much money? |
|
A/B sold to InBev at $70--um, wow. I'm not sure how much she'll not have to pay in capital gains taxes, but there it is. This has been your DU moment of outrage at the opponent we face in Novemeber. Thank you, your regular outrage may resume now. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/15/business/worldbusiness/15beer.html?ref=business

1. I've been wondering if this will hurt McSame in MO. |
|
Could be the final nail in that state. Lets hope so.

Sadly, RW slanted WSJ (who gets it from the AP I guess) was the place I had to get the info from! Its interesting that most of the reports on this have not mentioned the McCains.

3. Great minds think alike, EB! I've heard estimates that the McCain family |
|
has over $1 million in stoick in A/B according to her last known financial report. That's a whale of a lot of money, if thats the case.
I guess this isn't the nice glass of lemonade I thought it might be, though. I think people prefer drinking piss and vinegar around here!

4. I thought her money was in a Bud distributorship, not Bud itself... |
|
I only vaguely remember it, but I thought her company distributed the beer, instead of making it. It might be a subsidiary -- I don't know. But this sale might not have directly affected her empire. If it's just a distributor, it might just keep doing the same thing under the new regime.
That may be why it hasn't gotten any mention, though I suspect it will be talked about at some point, no matter what.

6. Nope--her and her family are reported to own $1 million in stock and they certainly do own |
|
quite a bit.
The NYT article skims it, but it does mention they own stock in the company.

9. Yeah, I saw that article later... |
|
...It mentions the name of the distributorship her family owns.
With $1 million in stock and a value gain (so far) of about 50%, it sounds like they made about $500,000 on the Bud buyout. Not exactly chump change, especially to make that money so fast, but also not a giant gain in net worth, given that she's supposed to be worth over $100 million.
Still, it should help pay down her credit card bills.
