For those, like me, who think that holding the Bushistas responsible for their crimes
is AMONG the most important issues that an Obama administration will face, could he POSSIBLY placate us some by
addressing the issue in the following manner?

In a national address, preferably at the convention, he says,

"I know. We all know. The world knows that George W. Bush and many within his administration have committed crimes in their pursuit of wealth and power. The republicans have spit on our Constitution in taking away rights that we have fought and died for since the revolution. They have trashed our reputation and honor around the globe through their illegal war against Iraq. George Bush and his cronies have made this world a more dangerous place with their terribly misguided foreign policy. Their economic policies have hurt millions of Americans while enriching those with connections and loyalties to their party."

"As much as I would love to see justice done regarding this gang, we as a nation just cannot afford to expend the greatly-reduced resources they have managed to leave unspoiled in order to pursue justice. The administration and their Congressional minions have caused so much damage, destruction, and death that we must dedicate ALL of our efforts in order to fix our country.

I will not waste millions of dollars and countless hours investigating what has occurred behind closed doors in secret meetings. I will not waste the precious time of Congress in endless hearings and investigation from which the Bush government will run and hide, ignore subpoenas, and lie to Committees when they do show up.

So, I call on all Americans who truly love our country to join me in doing everything we can to reverse the disastrous course that the last eight years of republican rule has taken us down. We have little other choice. Because it will take all our energy and intelligence and strength to undo what the GOP and its enablers have done.

Join me. Let us put our anger and need for vengence behind us. Let our revenge be a greater America in which the values of freedom, fairness, truth, and caring for all our fellow humans thrive and the infamy of the republican party is relegated to the dustbin of history."

** I am not convinced that even the strongest rebuke could satisfy me. But it is clear that nothing significant will be done to hold them accountable so I am looking for SOMETHING. Calling the GOP out on their actions is maybe all I can hope for. Even if it is not enough, it would be better than simply letting the GOPers ride off into a dollar-soaked sunset to enjoy the rewards of their crimes, unpunished and unaccused.

1. My hopes are that the world courts will hold them to account for their...
crimes against humanity and war crimes. If they dare to set foot out of the US (hopefully) they will be arrested by the country that they are entering and turned over to proper authorities.

2. It's NOT enough,
and I think I would gag over such a speech, but you're probably right that it's the most we can possibly expect. I imagine these criminals will get away 100% with everything they've done.

elvis has left the building...

and there will NEVER be a Beatles reunion.

The deed is done, which includes the get-away...it was always part of the deal.

ALWAYS.

those bastards need to be held accountable, on that we all can agree...but i will just as soon be glad to be rid of them and work to get rid of any and all reminders of them(laws, congress people, agencies, etc.) than i will be to expect true judgment to happen...

we have too much to undo and re-do and this bunch of thieves and cowards have occupied way too much of our energy...

...maybe the guillotine had the answers, after all...

4. That's the very least he needs to do...but timing is everything.
I'm not going to hold him to specific things I need to hear until the election over.

I give him great latitude for now because he's a far better judge of how to strategize to win than I am, or most members here.

But:

Once elected to office, he's going to have to explain in great detail how we got in our economic mess, and the war, who's to blame, who benefitted, who should be tried, etc.

It's been said that he'll only have one term because of the sorry state of things.

I disagree, I see an even greater need to expose all the corruption that brought us to this point, then outline how we must work hard and sacrifice to restore our liberties, our economy, our government.

This should both help identify and prosecute the culprits, restore the country, and prevent him from taking the blame.

He might not do this as thoroughly as I'd like, but I believe he'll do a better job than anyone else who had a shot at the white house this cycle.

:hi:
