Poll question: **POLL** New Yorker Cover **POLL**
Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 05:09 PM by Ron_Green
A simple question: Do you think the ultimate result of the New Yorker magazine cover and its coverage elsewhere in the media will be positve or negative?

1. Other: Neither.
I don't think it'll make much difference in the big picture. The people who will "believe" it are those who believe it already.

4. I agree.
And they don't read the New Yorker, anyway.

8. They are not stupid.
They are just too preoccupied with trying to raise families and make ends meet that they don't have the time or energy to get engaged with politics.

3. I remember thinking Americans would never buy the "swiftboat smears" and were too smart to be fooled
by such vile, disgusting, unfounded scare tactics.

I was wrong.

6. All the right wing magazines
would have loved to do a cover like this but wouldn't dare. The right wingers are now all jumping with glee because the New Yorker did it for them. I doubt that in the New Yorker's history there has ever been a front cover that has received such national attention. There is no way this is a positive for Obama. IMHO

7. It's not really satire
There has to be an element of truth in it for it to really work as satire. There isn't in this.

I get what they are trying to do, though.

9. The element of truth IS there: it's the fist bump. One true image in the cover.

12. Americans are amazingly stupid
Rick Shenkman’s new book, “Just How Stupid Are We?: Facing the Truth About the American Voter“:

–Only 2 in 5 voters can name the three branches of the federal government.

–Only 1 in 7 can find Iraq on a map.

–Only 1 in 5 know that there are 100 federal senators
