Is it possible that Republicans and Iran only pretend to hate one another?

It seems Republicans have been working deals with Iran since Reagan first came into office. And last week we find out that exports to Iran are up under Bush. We know that Chalabi who is Iranian and has close connections to the Iranian Gov gets along beautifully with the Bush Administration and that by ousting Saddam, we were doing Iran a HUGE favor.

Something just doesn't add up. It's like they know they need one another as enemy's to unite their people behind them but behind closed doors Republicans are selling them exports, making arms deals, getting hostages released, ridding them of their worst enemy etc. etc. etc.

One thing is for sure, we know Reagan and the radical Iranian leaders were making deals, so when would that friendship between them and Republicans really have severed?

I am no expert on any of this, so if I have missed something, please fill me in.

If you Google "Reagan Taliban" you come up with all sorts of stories. And I have no doubt whatsoever that we only know the tip of the iceberg.

Ah, yes. Iran Contra... another lovely chapter in American history.
