Obama is 'Anti-Christ Muslim' Email Still Circulating -- And Here It Is
Posted July 16, 2008 |

A friend of mine received it just this week from a close (rightwing) relative. It's cute that it cites Snopes as a source -- since Snopes mocks it.

I will reprint most of it here and then the denial from the "author" and church (in Florida).

Here it is.
*
"A man will come from the east...."

MAY WE ALL PRAY FOR WISDOM AND DISCERNMENT AND PRAY FOR EACH OTHER AS WE MAKE THIS DECISION OF A LIFETIME! OUR LIVES, CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN'S LIVES WILL BE CHANGED FOREVER BECAUSE OF OUR CHOICE THIS ELECTION. MAY GOD BE WITH US ALL!

God help us if this man is elected!! But it is all stated in the Bible and it will happen sooner or later.

.................

This is from Darlene Millican, wife of the pastor of Trinity Bapt. Church here in Sun City:

"I have felt for sometime now that Obama is the one person that 'Frightens Me'. I believe the Bible has warned us that 'A man will come from the East that will be charismatic in nature and have proposed solutions for all our problems and his rhetoric will attract many supporters!'

"When will our pathetic Nation quit turning their back on God and understand that this man is 'A Muslim'....First, Last and always....and we are AT WAR with the Muslim Nation, whether our bleeding-heart, secular, Liberal friends believe it or not. This man fits every description from the Bible of the 'Anti-Christ'!

...............

"Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential candidacy. The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside out, what better way to start than at the highest level - through the President of the United States, one of their own! The Bible says 'He will come from among you!'

"Please forward to everyone you know. Would you want this man leading our country? NOT ME!!! WITHOUT GOD, WE ARE NOTHING!!!"

1. I get most of the right-wing crank e-mails, but I've not gotten this one, or ANY about Obama,
actually.

I kinda feel left out.

2. All these right-wing "christians" are heretics! We need to start calling them what they are.
They hate Jesus Christ and everything he stands for. They hate peace, they hate giving, they hate love, they hate kindness and justice for the poor. They hate the whole thing. The only part of the New Testament they ever read is Revelations. THEY are the anti-Christ.

3. Alot of this crap starts in FL churches.
I'm am SOOOO glad my in-laws can't 'afford' to go down this fall and winter. Maybe it'll give us a chance to deprogram and enlighten them some before the election.

In our family, it's an uphill battle against crap chain email like that. Either they're starting to 'get it' a little OR they don't like that I refute everything they send to me, backing it up with facts -- and I do it to their whole damn mailing list. MIL is a dufus who doesn't hide her mailing list content in the headers ;) It goes to family, friends, church mice, and people in her pyramid YTB travel business list.

Hubby said I should just 'let it drop', but I said I'm tired of all the lies and crap she's spreading, so I'm correcting her errors.

5. Pretty foolish to "let it drop" if you ask me
If there's any chance whatsoever for enlightenment, I say go for it.

8. I remember an X-files episode about Florida during a hurricane
The line "All the nuts roll downhill." kept on coming up.

Florida has definitely got it's share of nuts.

Forida has still got some nice folks too!

6. Please read THE OTHER HALF before you jump to conclusions.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/greg-mitchell/obama-is-anti-christ-musl_b_113015.html

(snip)
Ms. Millican has denied she wrote the email and her church has sent out the following.

It has been brought to our attention that an e-mail has been circulating from our pastor's wife, Darlene Millican about Barack Obama, with the subject line: "Is He the Anti-Christ?".
This is absolutely NOT TRUE!!

Mrs. Millican has absolutely no idea how this horrible e-mail was started AND named her as the originator of such slander.

Luke 6:47 (NKJ) states, "Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: "He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock."

Darlene has spent her life teaching others to be and do their best for Christ . . . which includes not slandering others!

We also have no idea how it would be sent out using the Church's e-mail. Trinity Baptist Church's statement is that, "Everybody is somebody . . . and Jesus Christ is Lord" and our Pastors and Administration is absolutely aghast that this slanderous message is circulating about Barak Obama.

Trinity Baptist Church
of Sun City Center, FL

(snip)

So, either Millican is a very clever liar
OR
the whole church is in on the scam and they're portraying Millican as a slandered martyr
OR
Somebody else did indeed pull a prank/nasty trick on her and/or her church because he/she had a score to settle somewhere.

Just my 2 cents.

7. You know what I tell those people?
I send them this:

Why do you hate Jesus? Don't you recall that Jesus warned us not to worry about when he would return? Didn't he say not to give it any thought? Didn't he say he would return like a thief in the night, and no one would know when he would return? Which part of that don't you believe or understand? Why do you insist on worrying about such things?

Jesus never said there was an anti Christ. Some guy we don't even know named JOHN claimed there was an anti Christ, and most Biblical scholars believe the person he was talking about was the Roman Emperor Nero.

Every couple of years, someone claims that some political figure is the anti Christ. It's been Qaddafi. It's been bin Laden. It's been Saddam Hussein. And now it's suppose to be a Christian American?

If you love Jesus, you'll stop sending these stories claiming that Obama is the anti Christ. If you hate Jesus, you'll continue to disobey him.

----------------------------------------------------------

I try to use their own beliefs and scriptures to turn back the comments. That's why I cite Jesus as my authority and taunt them for not listening to what Jesus said.

9. My very Christian cousin told me Saturday night
that Obama was the anti-christ. I told her "what are you crazy", where would you get such an idea. She said that he is under cover and is the anti-christ. I decided to stop the conversation at that point because I could feel my blood pressure rising and it was my birthday celebration and I didn't want to ruin it. This is what we're up against with the fundies. This is a woman who is married to a black man and has a bi-racial daughter. You would think she would be happy that her daughter could say someone like me is president. Poor girl.

10. Just point out to her that the antichrist doesn't appear until AFTER
the rapture. So, if he's the antichrist, SHE ain't really born again. Otherwise she woulda been long gone.

...and a caller on his show said, "I have two words for Mr. Obama...Anti-Christ."

Hannity told him he was crazy and moved on. Seriously...this whole idea is so wierd to me.

They need to make up their minds.

Today I got an email about Al Gore "stealing" the Nobel Peace Prize from Irena Sendler (someone they felt was more deserving). What in the world did Al Gore have to do with it? Nothing.

These people are bitter and crazy.

13. Most fundies don't read the bible
and if they do they get a guide that tells them what their reading means according to whatever bizzare interpretation of the bible their idiot pastor believes in.

Half of the fundie pastors aren't even educated in seminaries believe it or not. They find out they are good public speakers and start churches and than proceed to teach whatever bizzare things they believe concerning the Bible. Try engaging them in a conversation about St. Augustine, Luther, Calvin,St. Thomas Aquainas, and you might find you know more than they do.

They will however have Rick Warren and Lee Strobel memorized. They are terrible hacks and frauds of the religion.

These people are nuts and as the economy gets worse they are only going to get more nuts as it is a sign of the imminent return of the Lord.

16. In fairness, Obama more resembles the antichrist than any American political figure I've seen
Edited on Wed Jul-16-08 11:40 AM by Kurt_and_Hunter
The anti-christ is not the devil. The anti-christ is a marvelously persuasive political figure who enjoys a reign of unprecedented peace and prosperity that precedes the final battle and the second coming.

I think I would vote for 1,000 years of peace and prosperity, but that's just me.

But since these nuts don't even know anything about their own religion, they probably think the antichrist is Satan.

Historically the top figure identified as the antichrist was Napoleon. (The antichrist unites the world, and Napoleon sought to put Europe under one mode of government.)

(By the way... since the antichrist comes from the east, are all these fundies Chinese? Hawaaii and Indonesia are both quite distinctly west of the USA.)

Defending the Facts on Obama's Faith
Reverend Jim Wallis

SojoMail@sojo.net
Sojourners
February 28, 2008

I don't endorse political candidates, but I will defend them when it becomes necessary. On this, I agree with my friend Richard Land, the conservative Southern Baptist leader who is often identified with the Religious Right. Richard and I agree that faith has a place in politics and, when we agree on fundamental moral questions, have worked together. Richard says, "I have defended various candidates from time to time when I've felt that they have been unfairly or inaccurately criticized. At other times, I have been asked by the media for my assessment of a particular candidate's chances or weaknesses and strengths. Neither defense nor assessment should be confused with endorsement. As a matter of policy, I have not endorsed, do not endorse and will not endorse candidates."

So I am going to defend my friend, Barack Obama, from an increasing number of ridiculous and scurrilous attacks on the Internet and in the media. The latest incident occurred when a loud-mouth radio talk show host in Cincinnati let loose with a barrage of disparaging remarks against Senator Obama and kept using his middle name—Barack HUSSEIN Obama—over and over, seemingly to tie into the Internet accusations that Obama is really a Muslim who, as a child, attended a Muslim "madrassa" school in Indonesia that taught Islamic fundamentalism, etc. As a Chicago Tribune blog piece commented, "Anyone who uses Obama's middle name repeatedly, like Cincinnati radio host Bill Cunningham the other day, knows what he or she is doing and what feelings they are trying to evoke. There's simply nothing innocent about it."

The occasion for the shock jock's diatribe was his introduction of Senator John McCain at a rally. To his great credit, McCain denounced the remarks when he heard about them, disassociated himself from this kind of attack, and reaffirmed that his campaign would be conducted on higher ground. Good for you, John McCain. So of course, the local loud-mouth, Bill Cunningham, quickly withdrew his support from McCain and now is denouncing him too; which, of course, was quickly picked up by his mentor, the national radio loud-mouth Rush Limbaugh (whom the local Cunningham seems to desperately "wannabe"). And, of course, Rush is now denouncing both Obama and McCain.

I watched last night as other cable news shows told this story and subtly tried to add more fuel to the fire. Lou Dobbs downplayed the Cincinnati outburst as unimportant and suggested it was no different that telling the world that John McCain's middle name is "Sydney." Sure Lou; and it was interesting that Dobbs followed with more innuendos and rolled eyes over the moment in the Tuesday Democratic debate when Obama was asked about Louis Farrakhan, about suspicions that Barack's home Trinity Church on the south side of Chicago was "black nationalist," and about why Obama's pastor, Jeremiah Wright, wouldn't come on Lou's show to discuss his alleged sympathies for Farrakhan, etc. It is certainly no mystery why Pastor Wright didn't cancel his retirement celebrations and drop everything to come on Lou's show. Would anyone?

An Associated Press story entitled, " Obama Fights False Links to Islam," commented on the new flare-up, "For Barack Obama, it is an ember that he has doused time and again, only to see it flicker anew: links to Islam fanned by false rumors, innuendo, and association."

During the Democratic debate, Obama again "denounced and rejected" the ugly anti-Semitic comments that Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan has often made, as he had done many times before. Farrakhan hadn't actually endorsed Obama, but recently said, "This young man is the hope of the entire world that America will change and be made better." Asked on Tuesday night about whether he would accept Farrakhan's support, Obama said: "I live in Chicago. He lives in Chicago. I've been very clear, in terms of me believing that what he has said is reprehensible and inappropriate. And I have consistently distanced myself from him."

So let's set the record straight. I have known Barack Obama for more than 10 years, and we have been talking about his Christian faith for a decade. Like me and many other Christians, he agrees with the need to reach out to Muslims around the world, especially if we are ever to defeat Islamic fundamentalism. But he is not a Muslim, never has been, never attended a Muslim madrassa, and does not attend a black "separatist" church. Rather, he has told me the story of his coming from an agnostic household, becoming a community organizer on Chicago's South Side who worked with the churches, and how he began attending one of them. Trinity Church is one of the most prominent and respected churches in Chicago and the nation, and its pastor, Jeremiah Wright, is one of the leading revival preachers in the black church. Ebony magazine once named him one of the U.S.'s 15 best Black preachers. The church says it is "unashamedly black and unapologetically Christian," like any good black church would, but is decidedly not "separatist," as its white members and friends would attest.

And one Sunday, as Obama has related to me and written in his book, The Audacity of Hope, the young community organizer walked down the aisle and gave his life to Christ in a very personal and very real Christian conversion experience. We have talked about our faith and its relationship to politics many times since. And after he gave his speech at a Sojourners/Call to Renewal conference in June of 2006, E.J. Dionne said that it may have been "the most important pronouncement by a Democrat on faith and politics since John F. Kennedy's Houston speech in 1960 declaring his independence from the Vatican."

Like his politics or not, support his candidacy or not - but don't disparage Barack Obama's faith, his church, his minister, or his credibility as an articulate Christian layman who feels a vocation in politics. Those falsehoods are simply vicious lies and should be denounced by people of faith from across the political spectrum.
