I volunteered for Obama today
I finally got up and went to the Richmond office and made a few phone calls.

Mostly it was to figure out where they were located and how I can get there quickly (lunchtime) and get back.

This is not about ME it is meant as encouragement-I think a string of "I volunteered today" threads would be a good thing.

Nice office. I wrote down their "wish list" my wife and I will be taking them a few things this weekend at the latest. They didn't mention Diet Coke but my experience in the 2004 campaign tells me that these type of operations literally run off Diet Coke.

A change so far-they ask you to make calls from your cell phone at least the Richmond office asked if I would. Doesn't bother me.

A few housewife looking people were there and most of the staff was very young.

One McCain supporter and one Obama supporter who was very interested in volunteering too. I took down her name but told her that basically they will call you a few times but it is mostly up to you to show up - I told her where the office is.

All right! Here we go!!!!

1. Hopefully they get the neighboorhood teams up and running in your area
It becomes so much easier once that happens as people have a local contact and you organize to hit your own area.

Thanks for volunteering.

3. I'm working on a garage sale and as soon as it's over this weekend,
I'll be back at the headquarters. Good kids and an enjoyable experience, although I don't do phones or door-to-door. I'll do anything else.

If anyone has been afraid to volunteer, don't be! They are so welcoming.

11. Well

There is data entry of the results of canvassing and call sheets, taking care of the volunteers as they come to and from the office, cooking and providing meals, working the office when people come in by pointing them in the right direction, answering their questions, or getting them campaign materials to name a few...

Also there are generally special events and you can work a booth like you would working in the office.

4. The county's Obama HQs is moving to a larger one, and there is an open house this evening.
My husband, who is not nearly as excited as I am about this election, has offered to come with me. My son and I spent a Saturday knocking on doors to register voters, and I plan to do all I can to see that Obama becomes our next president.

8. Good for you undies.
Would be great to see less people posting on DU and hear more volunteerism stories. Right now, all I can do is send money. BUT, I will be doing something in either Garmisch or Starnberg as we get closer to September (Get out the Overseas Vote stuff)
