Work it, baby! Obama hits the gym, again and again and...
Edited on Thu Jul-17-08 12:45 PM by npincus
OK, we know the Murderous Chimpanzee also enjoys a good workout, but doesn't it create a nice contrast between the 2 choices in this election cycle: a 72 year-old confused man vs. an athletic mentally-sharp 46 year-old?

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/07/obama-hits-the.html

ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: While Obama spent 91 minutes at a campaign event yesterday, the Illinois Senator spent a total of 188 minutes in the gym yesterday – making three separate stops to Chicago gyms over the course of one day.

The presumptive nominee started his Tuesday with a short morning work out at the gym of his friend and longtime aide Mike Signator’s apartment building.

After flying to Indiana for a campaign event, and doing a round of local TV interviews, the Senator returned to his home in Illinois where he spent the afternoon hitting two more local area gyms for the duration of the day. Obama first visited Signator’s gym again, returning home briefly and then going to East Bank Club, a downtown gym which Obama regularly plays basketball.

Senator Obama has been known for his strict work out regimen – rarely missing a day in the gym even with a busy campaign schedule. But for reporters following Senator Obama as he strolled in and out of gyms six times over the course of one day - his multiple visits raised a few eyebrows – with even a campaign aide cracking a smile as the third gym stop of the day was announced.

1. I wish I had 188 minutes to spend in the gym every day!
Or for that matter, even 30 minutes.

7. LOL, must be nice
the more pressure I have, the LESS time I have for luxuries like the gym (I belong to one, but really struggle to find time to go).

12. I think some of the press is suspicious that he may be doing VP interviews, not just working out.
Since they follow him constantly, they have to be creative in how and where he is doing VP interviews.

24. You'd be amazed at how your stress level will improve if you
take that time for yourself, recharging with exercise does wonders to help clear you mind.

18. To state it another way, maybe Obama saved 188 minutes by not posting at DU
Edited on Thu Jul-17-08 03:54 PM by Jersey Devil
If you spend 1-3 hours here per day then you DO have enough time to go to the gym.

3. Is he trying to make up for days he missed all at once?
The East Bank Club is the elite expensive health club where people with lotsa money go.

4. I can see it now, Faux news reports "Obama hits Jim, repeatedly"
and then the pundits speculate as to who "Jim" might be, and talk about his "mean streak" as a way to gloss over McLame's temper.

14. It would be really easy to put a hoop on the tennis court at the White House.
I got a close-up look at it a few weeks ago.

And, yes, he should be out there shooting hoops even while conducting meetings if it makes him feel good. It does me.

8. Sounds like he's getting ready for a long trip
and some good workout time before he sits on a plane for the next week.
They haven't reported a schedule, but I won't be surprised to wake up tomorrow morning to news that he's in Baghdad.

9. I'm gonna go into concerned mommy mode now....
I do wish he would increase his caloric intake. Someone on DU mentioned not too long ago how he seems to be thinner than his usual slim self and I agree...you can see it in his face.

10. That's a great example to set. None of us should have any excuses
now. LOL. If Obama can make that type of time while on the campaign trail, then surely the rest of us can set aside at least 20 minutes (starting tomorrow of course LOL).

13. Tell that to my bosses
I had seven hours of meetings in two days last week, and by the time the day is over, I need to go home because I have dogs there to attend to. I think many people are finding it difficult to be able to make time during the day. It's all part of that crap about increased "productity". We're getting more done because of fewer breaks.

16. This is not just about YOU.
It is about me and others as well.
You are not him,
so stop acting like he should be like you.

He has no dogs to walk, so he's working out instead.
Do you really mind, or are you just speaking
as though you are one of those reporters
who only has time to criticize every single thing
Obama does?

I believe that he needs to release the stress
that the rabid media is attempting to put on him,
don't you?
Certainly if I was him,
I'd just kick their asses one by one,
but I guess he doesn't find that as a
practical solution.

20. Not at all
Edited on Thu Jul-17-08 04:42 PM by LisaM
I think there are plenty of people not in 9-5 jobs (and this would include almost any politician or celebrity) that don't understand the time constraints that average Americans are under. It's a stress. This isn't just about ME. It's about people that can't find time during the day to do a multitude of time-consuming things.

BTW, I could apply it to Hillary just as easily. She clearly had someone to do her hair for her every day when she was on the campaign trail. Wouldn't I love that. I can barely find time to get my cut every couple of months and usually need to take time off work to do it.

is wrong in keeping fit ?. Current Gov health standards to keep obesity down for couch potatoes and french fry eating internet users getting grease on their keyboards is to excersize. He looks fit, acts fit, probably because he works out an shoots hoops.
