The Thursday Brainstorm: we need your ideas for next week's Activist Corps action
The http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=106x32240">first Activist Corps action of 2008 took place on Tuesday - a big THANK YOU to everyone who took part! Participating members reported success with the "Truth About John Sidney McCain III" mass email, which is hopefully being forwarded as we speak.

I should note that (as I write this) only 185 of the 850-plus Activist Corps members who have been online in the last week participated, which is a little disappointing - so hopefully we can do better next week.

This thread is now open to take your suggestions for next week's action. As a reminder, here are the guidelines:

1) Actions need to be something that members can do individually, without having to travel. While it would be nice to get a group of DUers together to protest in Washington DC, it would also be impractical and not something that the vast majority of the Activist Corps could participate in.

2) Actions don't need to be big things. Letters to the editor, voting in online polls, posting comments at an MSM website - these are all simple actions that lots of people can easily participate in. The action may seem small, but it's the combined force of many people taking part that can make a difference.

3) Actions should be related to the presidential election, or to the congressional elections in general. We'd prefer it if actions were related specifically to electoral politics and not to individual issues. If there is a specific issue in the news which is directly relevant to the presidential election or the congressional elections - such as high gas prices - then of course it would be fine to create an action around that issue. (For example, "Write a letter to the editor criticizing John McCain's energy policy.")

4) Actions should be able to be completed in a timely fashion. While there doesn't need to be a specific deadline for each action, bear in mind that we would like to do at least one a week, so long-term actions may not be appropriate.

5) We aren't going to run any actions targeting Democrats. I'm sure there will be some of you who disagree with this decision, but I'm afraid we don't think it's an appropriate use of the Activist Corps. Our focus is on defeating John McCain and Congressional Republicans this fall.

I look forward to reading your suggestions, and if you haven't participated in this week's action you still can - just http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=106x32240">click here for more information.

1. Let's do something about Corporate Media bias: a telephone or email campaign to
some big-hat or somesort, critiquing bias in their coverage.

12. You can print some out and leave them at coffee shops and book stores
and doctor's offices. That is what I am going to do tomorrow.

8. I was just going to suggest something like that.
Imo, that's what it comes down to..the goebbel's propaganda machine vs the net activist roots.

I don't get the cabel news but I can do something to help via DU.

2. My favorite activist task from a few years ago: LTTE
And not just because my LTTE got published. Maybe mass LTTE's attacking McCain? God knows I see enough attacking Obama all the time.

6. I like LTTE's idea. Locally, it is the most read section of the paper,
along with front page headlines, comics and obits.

13. It's one of my favorite forms of activism, too.
I love writing LTTEs, and writing one about the would-be national train wreck if McSame becomes president sounds like a delightful exercise in creative writing.

5.  Perhaps a follow-up letter/email thing, citing Obama's 'fact check' site.

7. Attack the "Barack is not funny" line of attack from the media
by writing letters to the media saying we don't need a funny President,
we already have one

or

calling the media on their storyline that Obama gets all of the media coverage.
We could go into the type of coverage Obama gets; negative vs. positive.
we would then write letters to all of the TV talking head shows.

11. include instructions to post on craigslist in your city.
lets go after comcast for putting MSNBC on a more expensive "tier" in their programming.
and lastly word things to catch the conservatives eye to actually read the message. instead of blasting straight out with the "liberal" point of view. i guess they have to have it sugar coated and spoon fed to them. so the message might as well be initially palatable. otherwise they reject it out right without pondering the point at all.

15. One thing I have seen from lurking over sites is "Confused and McCain" pisses off his supporters
so whatever it is we do .... use "McCain is Confused" ... a lot :)
