Obama campaign funds question |
|
Shortly after Obama became the presumptive nominee, there was a lot of talk about a massive "warchest" of funds he had for the election. Something along the lines of 300 million or so. Access to these funds was regarded as the chief reason why Obama decided not to go with public financing.
We also heard about how all this money gives him the flexibility to run a 50 state campaign, which he indeed appears to be doing.
But now we are hearing about his supposed "money crunch", and how despite raising a healthy $52 million last month, the Democrats are still trailing the Republicans in campaign funds.
So where is this 300 million dollars? Was that figure just the total primary money that was already spent? Is it not available yet for some reason? Why does the Obama campaign have "money problems"?

1. GOP is using a loophole in Campaign Finance law to funnel money into their warchest. |
|
And they have a lot more rich folks on their side.

That he can raise 300 million between now and November since he raised close to that for the primaries.
I expect August and September to be his best months and will easily top 80 million.

a large portion of the warchest cannot be used until after the convention when he IS the Democratic candidate and not the presumptive Democratic candidate as he is now before the convention

6. I believe that is the correct answer ^ |
|
He's still just the presumptive nominee until he's confirmed at the convention.

5. The Obama campaign isn't having money problems, but... |
|
... the DNC isn't raising as much as the RNC.

9. Don't some of the reports include 527 money that the campaigns don't actually, wink, wink, control? |
|
Re :puke: s can afford more 527s and maybe they even have more 527s already established because of their relationships with churches.
