John McCain: We Have SUCCEEDED In Iraq
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/07/17/mccain-we-have-succeeded-in-iraq/

John McCain took a rhetorical baby step toward declaring victory in Iraq on Thursday, arguing emphatically that "we have succeeded in Iraq."

"I repeat my statement that we have succeeded in Iraq," McCain told reporters aboard his campaign bus in Kansas City. "Not 'We are succeeding.' We have succeeded in Iraq."

~~

"The strategy has worked and we know have the Iraqi government and military in charge in the major cities in Iraq," McCain said. "Al Qaeda is on their heels and on the run."

McCain said "the success we have achieved is fragile and could be reversed" if Obama — whom McCain accused of "incredible naivete" — carries through with his plan to withdraw combat troops within 16 months of taking office.

6. If success is procuring Iraq's oil reserves mostly for the sole benefit of five major oil companies
Edited on Thu Jul-17-08 04:51 PM by indepat
at a cost of over 1,000,0000 lives, countless other casualties and mutilations, millions of orphans, a destroyed infrastructure and economy, countless homeless and refugees and a cost to the treasury in the trillions of dollars when including the cost of long time care of those mutilated, maybe that's success, but somehow McShame's judgment seems a tad flawed. And what about the cost if some international body were to hand President McShame a bill of reparations for this little pre-emptive venture? :D

Editied for context

7. Success came less than two years after the serge and all manner of
negotiations with the insurgents (except for al Qaeda). All things that should have been done at the start of the war. This war was surely lost by the * white house.
