Sean Tevis is running for state house in Kansas (!) I know only what I learned from his web site. But, its so damned clever I sent my $8.34 and think you should too. I like rewarding stuff like this.

"Running for Office: It's Like A Flamewar with a Forum Troll, but with an Eventual Winner"

The pukes in Olathe are especially bad. Remember that woman KS state senator who said women should never have been given the right to vote? She was from Olathe.

22. Done. He has an interesting weblog as well
From the May 21st entry:

Many front doors have a prominent “No Solicitors” sign displayed, which is a nice way of pointing out to hopeful door-to-door salesmen that the door will be shut on their face. Thankfully, as a politician, that sign doesn’t pertain to me as I’m not selling anything. The trick, however, is to let people know that I’m not a solicitor.

I rang one doorbell and heard someone on the other side of the front door. I think they were looking at me through their peephole when I heard a man yell “No solicitors!” without even opening the door. “I’m not a solicitor!” I sort of yelled back through the door. “I’m a politician!”

There was a pause.

I wondered if he had gone away, and then he yelled back, “That’s even worse!”

31. I haven't read the entire thread, but
the intro sounds reasonable....

Illegal immigration, and even *legal* immigration, exacts an unnecessary human cost. Our immigration laws desperately need fixing.

As the Baby Boomers retire we are going to need more people to work in this country. After 2010, a huge swath of workers and middle management will begin to disappear from the U.S. workforce. The number of new workers coming onto the job market will fall below the job creation capacities of U.S. companies.

We need immigration. It just needs to be legal immigration and that’s not something we can fix at the state level. I encourage you to contact Congressman Dennis Moore about the need to reform our national immigration laws.

also, what part of the bit you posted speaks about the actions he would take...that's what you need to read.

34. Why don't you point us to what is so bad?
Edited on Sat Jul-19-08 11:05 AM by high density
I just scanned the MetaFilter thread for his comments and I didn't see anything outrageous. Nor did I see any outrageous comments on his own site.

The guy says he didn't get in the race to tackle illegal immigration, but when he was talking to people this issue was coming up as one of their top concerns. It seems politically wise to mention the issue if that's something people want to talk about. What a state legislator in Kansas can do about it, I don't know. Sean seems to agree that it's "not something we can fix at the state level."

I have no idea what is wrong with the comments about immigration on his website, unless you are completely against legal immigration too. He can't control what his company did, and he didn't even work there at the time.

36. Enforcing current laws while trying to improve the process....
so people can more easily immigrate legally... nothing sinister from what I see.
