McCain advertisement
I haven't seen this one before.

Transcript/paraphrase:

During the "summer of love", McCain was in the armed forces, shot down, bayonetted, tortured, offered early release he said "no", he had sworn an oath. Home, he turned to public service, his philosophy, "before party, polls, self - America." A maverick, John McCain tackled campaign reform, military reform, spending reform, he took on presidents, partisans and popular opinion. He believes our world is dangerous, our economy in shambles. John McCain does not always tell us what we "hope" to hear (danger quotes on the closed captioning and a noticeable pause before the word to aurally put it quotes). Beautiful words cannot make our lives better. But a man who always put country and her peoplbe before self - before politics can. Don't hope for a better life, vote for one.

1. It tries to subliminally paint Obama as a 60's hippie protestor or radical and McCain as a hero

It was the "summer of love, a time of HOPE AND CHANGE" and the ad then moves on until a clear attack on Obama at the end.

McCain can't even get through a biography ad without attacking Obama.

2. Yup, I call the ad, "Hope Sucks"
it plays here in Northern California and is probably effective in associating Obama with hippies, which is just another fear ad, dangerous world, all that bullshit.

Subtext: It's a scary world, you need more than a hippy with hope, you need a veteran ex POW.

hope sucks.
