Some coverage of Dean's tour of the deep South...articles and pictures.
Howard Dean's tour of the South is not getting that much attention, but I did find a couple of articles about his trips to MS and LA. I have not seen national coverage of it, but then I have not been watching the TV as it sounds so inane.

I thought I would find more on a Google blog search, but I gave up on that. It is mostly PUMA type blogs attacking Dean. How in the world do they alway get to the top of Google blogs, while other worthwhile coverage suffers. Here is a search link to the blogs..annoying stuff.

Google blog search.

I found something about his visit to Shreveport, Louisiana.

Dean in Shreveport

Democratic National Committee Chairman and former Vermont Governor Howard Dean visited Shreveport this morning as part of the national Register for Change bus tour.

Dean also stated that it was important to register voters who might have become disenfranchised in the last election and to register voters across the board. Dean spoke about the future of politics and how the Democratic party plans to reach out to the younger generation of Evangelical Christians through the three issues that most concern them: poverty, climate change, and Darfur, which are more of a Democratic party platform. He emphasized that this was the people's election and not the politicians-- and it was about neighbor-to-neighbor, friend-to-friend discussions.

Dean said that it was time to move away from the Bush administration's divisive politics and move to a unified America. He said that although John McCain would offer another Bush term, Barack Obama wanted to be president of a unified America. A theme of the talk was that the election could and would only be won for the people and by the people, not for and by Washington. Dean said, "It's not me or Barack that's going to win this election, it's you that's going to win this election."

After the talk Dean took questions from the press (including KSCL!) and that coverage will air soon. For more information on Louisiana campaigning for Obama, please visit http://laforobama.blogspot.com/

There is a photo gallery of his trip there.

Then he was in Jackson, Mississippi.

Dean's tour hits Mississippi

DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL Committee Chairman Howard Dean right, shakes a few hands after addressing a crowd gathered at Tougaloo College in Jackson on Friday. (The Associated Press)

"Not only has the South changed a lot in the last 40 years - the Democratic Party has changed a lot, too," Dean said.

"This is a tough state for us," he said, but "we wouldn't be in these states if we didn't think we had a chance of winning."

According to the most recent polls, Republican nominee and Arizona Sen. John McCain is leading Mississippi with 50 percent 44 percent for Illinois Sen. Obama. McCain's support has seen a slight drop since the beginning of the year, while Obama has seen a slight increase, though.

"I think we have an uphill climb, but it's not impossible," Dean said.

This reaching out to the South is very important. I think it may be getting decent local coverage, but not national.

The best coverage of all was the very pissed off Texas Republican who as much as declared that Texas still belonged to them.

1. Wow look at his buss!
Nice coordination with the Obama campaign. And how far he has come since I met his little broken down RV that was donated for his cross country travels.

I think when we get to look back at what went on in this campaign we will find story after story about a level of tactics and coordination never seen before.

5. Here's the remainder of the trip...from a previous article.
_ On July 25, three stops are planned in North Carolina — Raleigh, Greensboro and Charlotte.

_ July 26 takes him to Georgia for visits to Savannah, Macon and Atlanta.

_ In August, the bus is scheduled to make stops in Midwest swing states like Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana before it heads to Denver for the Democrat National Convention, which opens Aug. 25.

6. Baton Rouge....
Rally at New Hope Baptist Church ends La., Miss., trip

DENNY CULBERT/Advocate staff photo Howard Dean thanks G. Washington Eames, 75, for a campaign donation Saturday, saying he would personally deliver it to presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Howard Dean capped off two days of zigzagging across Louisiana and Mississippi with a voter registration rally in Baton Rouge Saturday afternoon.

Speaking on a raised platform in front of New Hope Baptist Church, the chair of the Democratic National Committee promised voters that the party would be more active in the South this election cycle.

“We gave up on the South for too long,” Dean said. “We are never again going to fail to show up in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. We can win here.”

8. You found some great pics, mad..thanks.
And, the story behind them.

That's why Dean and Obama have to take it out to the people because the mainstream media don't want to have a good light shining on them.

12. This deserves 100 recommendations! HE IS DOING EXACTLY
what needs to be done to help us pick off a couple of southern states. Going down there to say hello to the people in the south, court them and also register a shit load of new people. These are the things that make a difference! Good for Dean in doing this!

16. The kind of leadership required for success.
The good doctor has the temerity to take the battle to the heart of Ku Klux Klan territory. He's a modern day Freedom Rider. The DLC wing that opposes Dean concedes far too much by writing off the South and standing in the middle of the road with yellow stripes and dead armadillos. The voters want someone who stands up for them.
We need at least 10 point poll margins going into the election. Today's voting mechanisms are rife with opportunities to rig elections. We should follow Howard Dean's lead and talk to people we've been ignoring , albeit ignoring to preserve our own sanity.

19. Howard as DNC chair is one of the best things that has happened
to the party in forty years. He does not cower and doesn't concede a single vote. His 50-state strategy is giving the Repigs fits. Dean sees the big picture as few national Dems have done in years.
