Obama, McCain Plan Joint Appearance at Rick Warren's Church
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/07/21/obama_mccain_plan_joint_appear.html

Dr. Rick Warren, one of the country's most prominent megachurch preachers, announced today that Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama would make their first joint campaign appearance on Saturday, Aug. 16 at Warren's Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif.

The two presumptive nominees will attend the "Saddleback Civil Forum on Leadership and Compassion," moderated by Warren, who founded the 22,000-member Orange County church and wrote the best-selling book, "The Purpose Driven Life."

"We're honored that the candidates chose The Saddleback Civil Forum on Leadership and Compassion for their first joint appearance, an unprecedented opportunity for America to hear both men back-to-back on the same platform," Warren said in a statement released by Saddlebrook. "This is a critical time for our nation and the American people deserve to hear both candidates speak from the heart -- without interruption -- in a civil and thoughtful format absent the partisan 'gotcha' questions that typically produce heat instead of light."

2. I think this is a wonderful opportunity. Obama will prevail,
as he has the credentials and experience with church-based settings, and it gives church-connected people of all persuasions a chance to see our candidate as a balanced and rounded person.

3. Good Move
This is great on Obama's part. It is another chance to reach Christians who do not identify with the crazy fundamentalists.

10. And it gives him an opportunity to outshine McCain...
in front of what is supposed to be McCain's strongest base of support.

4. this is good. If Obama can even ply away 5% of the religious right vote from McCain
he will probably win.

She said it will be Rick Warren asking the questions. Each candidate has one hour a piece.

6. So that's Rick Warren?
And, I take it he's not one of these religious hypocrites like most of the gop?

He is very respected in many non fundamentalist-crazy churches across the country.

8. No he's not a wingnut
and he's more like a motivational speaker. Hopefully he'll give Obama a chance to knock the Muslim rumors for good
