nobody seems to believe it is the case. Tweety yesterday was laughing about it. But I kinda hope he will pick a VP soon (if not this week) just because then we will know who we are up against and can plan accordingly.

1. It's not just Novak anymore, though. CNN confirmed it with the McCain campaign:

2. If he does, it is a sign of desperation. I'd wait until after Obama named his--McCain actually has
that luxury.

4. "recent discussions high in the campaign about the possibility of naming a running mate this week"
That's the type of decisive leadership we can expect from McCain. "We are talking about thinking about deciding to make a decision maybe this week."

Aren't we all, John. Aren't we all.

3. It's like predicting a rainstorm. Sooner or later, you'll get it right.
Cracks me up about predictive journalism, like sports or politics. All these reporters pick who they think will win or what will happen. If they are right, people are amazed, and if they are wrong, people forget it. So they are wrong or right at about the same frequency as a coin toss.

If he's not naming sources, we won't know until after it's over, anyway, so who cares? He's just trying to undermine some of Obama's attention this week, anyway. Novack, I mean, not McCain. I don't think McCain even has a plan. Novack probably wants McCain to win more than McCain does.

16. Sorry, no.
George W. Bush is not the greatest president ever.
And you are simply pathetic.
Don't you have anything better to do with your time?

7. If he does it will show how incompetant his campaign is
Short term thinking would be ruling the day. IF he does it will Obama is in Europe he will have to split the coverage of his vp pick with Obama if he waits till the day Obama gets home he can have a few days coverage to himself. Of course the Obama camp is three steps ahead of everything he does so they would probably just announce his VP to take control back from mcsame but still. Announcing while Obama is in Europe not only looks petty but wastes a solid bump just to slow press coverage for a day.

14. the Olympics run from August 8 to August 24 followed a couple days later by the Democratic National
Convention. So it is a reasonable guess that the McCain campaign will not want to compete for media attention. So it is a reasonable educated guess that they will likely announce the decision prior to August 8.

this article from politico:

snip:"The window on an announcement is, however, closing. The Olympics begin August 8th and run until the 24th. To ensure maximum news coverage of their pick, neither campaign wants to go public with their decision during the international spectacle. And immediately after, the Democrats begin their convention. McCain, of course, does not want to make his pick during this period, either.

The most frequently mentioned name for McCain in recent weeks has been Mitt Romney. Despite their heated primary, the two have seemed to become more comfortable with one another. McCain has showered Romney and his family with praise in recent weeks and also subjected his old rival to some mild teasing of the sort that suggests more affection than antipathy. In turn, the former Massachusetts governor has become a fixture on TV news shows, seeming to try out for the number two gig and promoting the man he once derided as insufficiently conservative to effectively contrast with the Democrats.

Other potential candidates include former Ohio congressman and OMB director Rob Portman, a favorite of Bush loyalists, South Dakota Sen. John Thune, a reliable conservative and potential compromise pick, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Florida Gov. Charlie Crist. Former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge and Conneticut Sen. Joe Lieberman are also prospects, but Ridge supports abortion rights and Lieberman, though elected an independent, hews to the Democratic line on that issue and others.
